Yes as an obviously new demon Tom seems to have managed to father a miniature version of himself roughly ten years of age. He was clearly working quite fast. He is likely related to Rupert somehow, but I don’t know how. Their has to be a powerful connection however as demons don’t normally look so much alike. They are balors and they can potentially rule over all lesser demons.

The whole fourth order half-demon will freak the others out and will once more cause others to grossly overestimate Tom’s abilities. He will do something unusual, amazing, and unique to escape the situation and with his acting skill appear to have done it on genuine talent as opposed to the luck and improvisation that we all know he employs.

This is creepy. These people should be commenting frequently as I believe it is against their nature to have a conversation that gets straight to the point as they are quite loquacious and verbose.

    I say shenanigans.

It’s about time, and you better not make us the better people. We should be petty and morally inferior or equal to those we subjugate. Those with the moral high ground should lose due to their self imposed restrictions. In reality evil triumphs over good and then rewrites history to portray itself in a better light. Clearly a book that reflects this aspect of the world would be a great read from the winners perspective.

Tom already knows that normally animus attracts mana, but when summoning that wizards use mana to attract animus, so with all his excess mana would it be possible to attract greater quantities of animus, which could then be used to attract mana, in a loop format as he siphons mana from his surrondings. Also it was mentioned that mana is most expressed when feeling strong emotions and that necromancers like fear. Would a demon stealing a God’s power cause enough people to fear him to gain a noticeable increase in his mana?
Demon’s are just animus bound to a manabody, so if a mage could summon sentient animus and bind it unwillingly to a manabody, a demon should be able to summon non-sentient or excess animus in ones surroundings and insert it within themselves. People pick up more of simply by experiencing new things and travel, so it shouldn’t be to hard to acquire.
    Probably.

A demon is formed by what the summoner and the summoned think they should look like. If the summoner wanted to increase the varieties of demon, so that their would be demons that would appear less traditional perhaps, it would allow for more infiltration. Their are probably many people who are uncertain of the next life who might jump at the opportunity to have a new life if they had died or simply in a coma where they can’t reconnect with their body.

Also why do the Astlanians assume that the demons looked as they did on other planes and not question what could have naturally made something like a demon. Also since demons have mana bodies could they modify them by permanently incorporating other elements to make their bodies more dense, and capable of sustaining itself with less mana for easier infiltration of low mana realities as the current method is either through wet dreams, or through artificial bodies that are constructed that possesed. or through a naturally formed possesed body that may or may not still have a preexisting conscience within.

Do realities with magic have it permeate everything, in pockets, overlap without intersecting a non-magical reality, or does it behave differently?

When breeding with humans the mother provides most of the energy required, so the energy provided from by a male demon is minimal, but the power is normally around the average, but it is sometimes less and sometimes more. Also shape changing anything beyond their basic form is somewhat uncomfortable and they always desire to revert to their natural shape.

Also two demons may look similar and have similar abilities, but they are then normally related and the parent is often quite powerful.

I will point you to Tom’s adaptations so far

Envy: Seems to envy those who aren’t in mortal peril.

    Greed: He doesn’t have much…yet

Gluttony: Hasn’t messed with this much as he doesn’t need to eat, but appreciates that he now eating most things without dying.

Lust: Still a virgin and not looking yet, but he has displayed pride in his new manhood or his third leg as he first called it.

Pride: He’s young and this will grow with time and experience.

Sloth: He got bored of his cave within a week and seems to enjoy practice, as it gives him something to do, increases his odds of survival, and he only sleeps when he has to.

Wrath: Fits of rage/anger/destruction, he has adapted to his new found lack of conscience with surprising gusto and seems to enjoy his power. He dwells on it from time to time, but has viewed it as a non-issue.

I have seen heroes walk into peoples homes or places of work and randomly root through pots, dressers, garbage cans, and chests. They will then take what they desire all whilst never being persecuted for such actions. If I walked into a strangers home and took their stuff it wouldn’t go half as well. Even my simply knocking on a strangers door is likely worse than a hero taking their stuff. This world is quite unfair at times.

Sorry let me clarify. I meant corruption in a manner similar to contamination. A mean to corrupt the god pool that serves as the fount of power for the god. From what I have been told the god pool is the intermediary between the god and those who serve them, so contaminating would have negative effects on all those who rely on this pool for power. Kind of like the True Power in the wheel of time series. In essence a film was placed over the power so that all who drew on it drew in some of the insanity woven by an old evil. The power is still their and can be accessed, but now all who use it are forever tainted by a dark power.

I mention this as corrupting those who serve the divine with their own power sounds just positively delightful for me. As it would be a demonic taint my mentality would not be affected all that much. It is just wonderfully delightful to watch the mortals kill each other for reasons I have direct influence on. They will likely think of reasons to bring harm to one and other without any demonic influence, but their reasons aren’t as creative.

Demons have no maximum memory capacity and a lot of time. The human mind can only hold so much, which is why some go senile. The stronger ones can also shape shift and visit realities beyond Astlan. Sleeping, breathing, and eating are more a hobby or habit. This gives demons a lot of time to study and practice their various ideas and interests.

Let me restate my argument, most ancient gods in Earth history were forces of nature. Some where quite human, some were petty, some where noble, but most were seen as the lesser of two evils as they were often opposed to something worse than them and their presence was often seen of as comforting to the people, modern culture however has spawned numerous obscure pantheons based upon the vague concepts of good and evil. Good deities have angels and evil deities have demons. If only gods exist they are often seen as good and opposed to the evil demons. Sometimes the line is blurred, but angels are normally good.

Powerful demons and most demons in general are quite paranoid. They will observe weaker demons and eliminate if deemed a threat. Demons will however ignore demons who are not a threat to them or in their sphere of influence in favor of those who are in opposition to them. If another demon might bother them in the future they might eliminate them, or they might do it cause they can. However rank 4 demons tend to ignore demons of rank 2 or lower unless they have something that interests them. Most attention is given to those near them in power and those of greater power than them. They will also try to kill those who annoy them, like Lilith with Tizzy. She mentioned it but keeps forgetting to do it.

To sum it up the Old Gods of our world were not good or evil, but the lesser of two evils and either forces of nature, or extremely powerful supernatural beings. Modern gods in modern pantheons are this and often have a moral alignment with some good, evil, or neutral, and chaotic, orderly, or neutral. Old gods would likely mostly be neutral/neutral, or close to that. Modern gods tend to be rigid in their alignment. Old gods were fluid in their alignments. This is about polytheistic religions and I will choose not to delve into the monotheistic religions as that screams bad idea and a long debate with that one zealot who happens to find that obscure post. Gods with fluid alignments and humanish personalities are old gods and gods with a limited defined and rigid method of interaction with mortals is most likely to be found in modern pantheons.

I will elaborate more later if needed.

Everybody who read this novel liked it for some reason or other. It could be that it had some elements that others lacked and it could be that it simply examined the holes in some elements that other works of fiction held.
I know if you liked this novel their must be something in this story that drew you. I read a comment about this being a fresh of breath air or something similar to that, so what is it that you found tiring in other works that you didn’t find here. Really just type about things you liked and things you disliked about this work and other books.

I know that all the wizards got together and linked their powers to drive the demons out, but couldn’t demons do the same thing to humans on a large scale as well. They naturally generate a fear spell so forcing large numbers to flee in terror wouldn’t be to hard. I know in most fantasy settings humans are immune to many things of a magical nature, but shouldn’t they be more vulnerable due to their lack fo any natural resistance. If a human can do something to a demon, then it makes sense that demons would have devised a more cruel way to utilize it on a human.
