Interesting idea, it might depend on the demon, some might do that naturally, while others could learn it over time. Demons might have other senses that humans lack. Maybe they have that sense hammerheads have that let them detect other sea life by their nervous system. Might be interesting to know how many senses demons might have. They likely have more senses and sharper senses than the average human.

Most demons are bound to a wizard and this can be tracked, or a higher leveled demon can just hijack a summons. Any demon on astlan can make portals with great accuracy into the abyss. A demon with astralmancy or the wizardly equivalent could also probably navigate the two planes with little difficulty.

History is written by the victors and everybody tries to justify their actions. The good guy is often the guy who has the most power and tries to maintain the norm. People are good at adapting and will get used to most things given enough time.

I thought demons could shape-shift into anything. In theory a demon could turn into a cat with practice. They typically choose a humanoid shape as it is what they are most familiar with and is the easiest for them, or they try to create a weaponized or idolized form. I doubt Bess was originally a cat-headed woman with that looked like a living statue and I doubt that Lenamare naturally ages. He is an entire line of wizards with slightly variant features, none of them looked the same so he would have to age himself in a believable manner, pretend to be injured, keep track of all his scars, and somehow take characteristics of himself and the female he is using for his mother at the time. He also needs to appear as a child while growing up, he would also have to have both his parental and child forms present at the same time on some occasions or the illusion would break. Aging, scars, bleeding, and his corpse would all have to be faked. Demons are limited by familiarity and time. So a dragon could pose as a human, demon, or reptile. A demon doesn’t need to be a human either as it was shown that some of them were twisted into fauns and other demonic Greek nonhuman creatures and what not. Less human forms simply take longer to perfect and maintain for demons.

Also how would a shifted demon go about crying or sweating? Would they need to eat the required materials, do it with no difficulty, or be forced to use complex/simple spells.

Do you possibly know the ages of some of the demons in story, and if so could you please list them in chronological order. I really want to know some of these ages as you Tizzy seem to be quite old. Which is good for a demon. It shows either strength, intelligence, cunning, guile, stealth, or luck. Normally not luck, but luck does help quite a bit. The more of the others you have the less luck you need to survive, luck is kinda like a multiplier in that respect.

That’s from a human perspective. All organisms will often view themselves as the norm. A mindset differs than the norm is often view as a form of insanity. Well some are viewed as more sane, but most are viewed as less sane. We are demons their for demons are sane and foolish human mortals wallow in their own madness. We pretend to be mad for amusement and when we don’t the humans react poorly to demons acting rational, thinking we’ll try to trick them into doing something morally reprehensible. They can do that without us. I swear most of the worst things they’ve done and blamed on demons was either started by a demon and then perpetrated much longer by other humans as the demon had other things to do, or was something they blamed on a demon. A human could never do ______ so a demon must have made them do it. So human to blame something on demons. I swear they just use us as scapegoats to justify their own actions. If we are so bad, why do they keep summoning us. If they stopped the demonic plague to their world would end. Sense they haven’t done this they clearly need us for some reason which they fail to express. I know I would never summon a physical manifestation of what I perceived to be pure evil. That screams bad idea.

Tom’s ability to find an accursed master on the mortal plane and open a portal for a demon to go their under no wards at any time or place will likely be in great demand. Frankly their is little a demon would enjoy more than an option for that. Look at what Tizzy or any demon other than Tom does when they run into their master whom is unprotected and unmolested. They mess them up. That is a skill that could be used greatly for demonic profit as it lets one kill the master and loot their stuff. Wizards tend to be rich.

Does time run parallel between the two planes or do certain planes travel faster. In mythology sometimes people would enter a fey path and return decades later to find all their kinsman dead or return as an old man after having left as a child but a day ago. It would be an interesting form of torture as humans are short lived and you could use time to kill of all they are close to with very minimal work. Sadly they often leave bloodlines or students so it is often necessary to literal end the entire bloodline if a demon wishes to be free otherwise they often leave your name lying around in some obscure location that will be found by somebody else eventually.

Tom also believed he was hallucinating and quite high. Being stoned out of your mind, in a literal sense and seeing your cold unresponsive body in your trip, he thought the voice was a doctor, till it got all creepy. Still all that God mana has to do wonders on his body. I kind of want to see him start either consuming other manabodies like angels, demons, dragons(still demons), whatever necromancer summon purely with mana, etc.. It would be quite demonic and angel slaying is something all hellspawn do in video games. Its funny how in some games angels are evil for trying to purge humanity, yet people are still not thankful after being saved. Also why do heroes get to be kleptomaniacs, and yet thieves other than the hero are hunted with extreme prejudice. Nice theft in story by the way.

So what types of demon are there beyond the average demon which i will now call a devil and a cubi which will try to seduce you. I will also assume more cubi are female or feminine as I think horny teenage males are more likely to summon a demoness for obvious reasons than the reverse. Not saying it can’t happen, but it is always the horny teenage boy from most of my past experiences, which I won’t elaborate on.

If you wanted to you could use the demon binding ritual on an Astlanian soul with the intention of making a demon. They typically use souls of beings whose identity they cannot recognize, but you could really use any soul for the purpose of creation. Typically Astlanian souls are used by necromancers and their souls and true names are often protected by a deity, but a demon with mind reeving (21 animage ability), which doesn’t technically exist, you could simply rip a multitude from a priest or see if the person them-self knows it. Not sure about magic in Astlan, but in some realities that I know of magic is stronger when a person knows of their true name. It holds power over the person so they could likely use it to empower themself and since mind reading is mythical in story their is little risk provided you don’t say it. Just use their name, sever their silver cord, kill them and capture the spirit, or find the spirit lingering on its own and then use it to make a demon, or whatever other mana construct you desire. You could make them hard to find for espionage, or have a calming and reassuring presence for somebody with great charisma, really you are just limited by the summoner’s and the summoned’s imagination.

I thought Dragons hated humans(possibly humanoid beings) in general. If a dragon can tolerate a human it can also tolerate a demon. The question of which it will feel more threatened by could shape its reactions. Just remember the dragon riding orcs. Two questions, since dragons are demons can they not also shape shift. If they can some might pose as a humanoid demon or a mortal species as Dragons are intelligent. I don’t know how different their original species are from humans, but the concept of spies, camouflage, and scouts should be common. Dragons raise less alarm bells than demons so they could likely be more extensive throughout Astlan.

Few humans can tell one dragon apart from another dragon and they can access more places do to a lack of a need to eat, breathe, and can move freely in three dimensions. Not all dragons would be large as smaller dragons might be seen as drakes, wyrms, or wyverns. They would have a hierachy with weaker dragons as weaker species, and larger dragons being more rare. Not sure what they’ve done, but as an intelligent species they have likely formed some type of community and possibly a society that those on Astlan might not recognize.

Also the slow regenerative nature of dragons is less blatant than that of demons and might make them appear more natural as it takes time for them to recover.

Any more thoughts on dragons would be nice. I can think of more later.
