If the soul/person is present, you can use consensual links, and if the person is willing, you can do it without knowing the true name. There was a brief reference to this in the D’Orcing when Tom or someone commented on the fact that since the subject was there, waiting and willing, it would be much easier than a normal demonization.
The true name is required for non-consensual binding, and summoning in particular. In order to summon a soul across the multiverse you need the true name.
The Author GuyMemberThat would work!
The Author GuyMemberUndead normal giants would be interesting, but not that Nysegard-shattering. Same with many other large undead, they are already there.
In fact, I’m retconning in normal undead giants.
And I should distinguish what I mean by giants.
Giants as they are known on the material plane are jotunkind, descended from the jotunn, the true giants.
What people think of as giants in Nysegard, Astlan, etc are very much a mortal race, not unlike dwarves, just very large, larger than ogres
Urak Hai are about 11-12 feet tall.
Ogres and Trolls are between 9 to 15 feet tall depending on a variety of factors.
Giants, depending on sub-race are 15 to 22 feet tall, with the exception of mountain giants which can be much taller. These are sometimes confused in literature with the immortal giants, those are the Ragnarok and Titan related giants.
The Author GuyMember
When discussing the links being cut from the doomalogues, the word fail is used instead of fall, or perhaps fail safe?
Do you mean this sentence?
“He lost contact with Mount Doom, and he was upset that his links didn’t fail over to the Etterdam Doomalogue.”
fail over is what he meant, failing over is the process of falling back to a secondary connection. It is a fail safe mechanism.
A primary system, link, route fails, you fail over to the next in line. It is used very much in IT and the military, but it may not be that common yet in everyday parlance. What do people think
{Gratuitous Plug for Wilds of Eton}
BTW This is why you always want an heir and a spare, in case the line of succession has to fail over to the spare. In which case King works to get a new spare, including, if need be, getting a new wife. BUT you do not want more than an heir and a spare or the family wealth/inheritance becomes a problem, not to mention potential rivalries for succession etc. Now, that being said, the Holy Etonian Emperor is wealthy and powerful enough that he can, and does have a lot of spares. Whereas, Lord Narthan, father of the Emperor’s current wife, HAD a lot of spares, but they keep meeting grisly ends and so he’s got to import a spare from the Emperor (Narthan’s grandson and seventh son of the emperor, Kristof.
The Author GuyMemberUltimately, it was the Dark Apostle and his agents on those worlds.
We will eventually learn that the DA was responsible for their eviction in many worlds.
In the case of Nysegard, their original followers were driven to enclaves much like the Siblings people by the Storm Lords. After the fall of Doom, they got even more suppressed by the Storm Lords, however the Siblings had very little to do with that. They simply didn’t have the same resources that the Siblings had. After Doom’s fall, they worked to rescue those that wanted to leave and fortify the remaining.
So there are still a few enclaves on Nysegard, but like most groups, they live in isolated enclaves; their are probably about 1/5 or 1/6 as many NE followers on Nysegard as there are Siblings.
This will actually be coming up at the end of this book/beginning of Next.
Tom needs more people on the Isle of Doom, he is going to invite the Nyjyr Ennead to move followers to the Isle of Doom (either existing ones on Nysegard, or new ones. He will want to strengthen his alliance with them.
The Author GuyMemberThere have been hints that various people have spies in the citadel. It could even be the same person…
I’ll toss it into the mental salad that I shall sleep on overnight trying to figure out how to improve stuff in the last couple chapters.
The Author GuyMemberThe issue seems to be the link between the site and the forum module.
The avatars are set by the site profile, not the forum profile. When I look at my settings for the site, my avatar shows up fine, but not in the forum which is called YAF. (YAF has some duplicate functionality as it can run on it’s own outside the CMS I use which is DNN; when inside DNN it reads DNN info)
On the top menu bar, next to “Logout” you will see your username. Click on that and you will see your site settings. Under your avatar there will be an “Edit Profile” button, that’s where you edit the avatar and other information. the forum is reading that data.

That is a bunch.
Starting to work through….
The Author GuyMemberWhen I was in college we all did that line over and over. It is a classic.
The Author GuyMemberIt’s more of an allegiance thing for Damien. He can still be a friend, help out, even do research in the library and play unofficial adviser and I am sure will. But you really can’t easily be an official for two different governments, particularly when one half of your first government thinks the second government is a “Force of Evil”
The Nimbus will be very involved in the peace process and there are two parts to its mission: 1) the Orcs/D’Orcs and keeping peace with the elves. Very important; they don’t know for sure yet, what’s up with the Orcs/D’Orcs but they’ve now established contact; so the investigative part is close to over, but the negotiation/keeping the peace is only just starting. 2) The “who is Bess” mission is on hold, I expect that to eventually to come back around as we get moving on the Nyjyr Ennead front
The Author GuyMemberHmm,
Very good question with multiversal implications…I need to think on this.
The Author GuyMemberTesting.
Only change I made yesterday should have been colors.
Can’t believe that is it.
The Author GuyMemberNoted, will try to get organized to make sure I get this when I am at that chapter next.
