Arg-nargoloth is currently on Etterdam.
That was a one nighter at that point. I think. Did he stay there training people?
He will be there when they get ambushed by the alvar, but that was postponed when they decided to stop and train.
He would have been summoned back for this though. He’s a member of the Tartarvardenennead and recall his conversation with Tizzy, they would be needing to have all hands on deck for such adventures in the future.
I need to check and maybe specifically have him recalled.
The Author GuyMemberOf course!
You do understand that the tavern she talks about was in Nysegard?
The Author GuyMember

I was thinking that when Tiernon heres from Beragamos and sends in reinforcements, that this battle would be an excellent field test of the reversed Excrathadorus Mortis. He wanted to find out its capabilities, i cant imagine a situation that calls for an unlife slaying dagger more. Plus the potential for awkward moments this would cause could be so much fun
I know. I thought the same.
Unfortunately, Iskerus somehow managed to ‘lose it’
Tiernon stole it from Iskerus.
Thats why I was thinking just send it with the reinforcements. Iskerus losing it and then seeing an avatar waving it around would be just one of the awkward moments i thought of.
That would be amusing….
The Author GuyMember
Overall, I really like the addition. I’m not sure if its the ending, if so its a bit..abrupt? Also, I still can’t fathom why the book is called The Apostles of Doom.
more to come, big battle scene and then for some surprises as we setup the wait for book 4.
The Author GuyMember
One question is, if the 5S have these shock troops who can be deployed for free, what’s the backstory for not using them to just roll over every Unlife-infested world to gain Lebensraum and keep them trained up and sharp?
The Dark Gods, Gods of Chaos, the gods that are not signatory to the Concord of Conciliation but that do tentatively abide by it.
We will see them in the Lacuna
Sutekh,
Zbibk
and their agent Baron(ess) Tartibsizlik
I am not sure if it is in the version you have, but in the current last scene Ramses and Exador get schooled on the Lords of Chaos. They are not signatory’s of the Concord because they refuse to submit to the Tribunal, however, pragmatism means they tend to respect the rules.
You can be sure that if Tiernon brought his super knights onto the field then the Dark Gods would deploy
Knights of Chaos and similar
the reason for not just sending your knights out to destroy things you don’t like is that you don’t really want to escalate tensions on all sides.
It’s like certain presidential candidates wondering why you can’t just nuke those countries you don’t like.
It’s one, dangerously stupid thing to deploy Knights of Chaos in the Abyss (when you are ‘in charge’ of the Abyss), it’s another thing to deploy them or their analogues on the material planes, a sandbox where all the other gods have their toys
The Author GuyMember
This is awkward sounding because how you twice used D’Wargs in the sentence reads as a bad case of redundancy.
“D’Wargs!” Valg’s mother shouted seeing that along with the D’Orcs came a huge outpouring of D’Wargs!
Is this any better? Bordering on Oorstemothian….
“D’Wargs!” Valg’s mother shouted upon seeing a huge outpouring of winged wargs in addition to the horde of D’Orcs. There were no D’Wargs currently in Nysegard, so for most, they were creatures of legend.
The Author GuyMemberI would say it’s that the them is something like
None of us has a clue as to what the hell we are doing,
However, we are scared shitless that everyone else does know what they are doing,
So we are just going to try and fake it and act like we know what we are doing,
And our biggest terror is others finding out that we are faking it.
I call this “growing up”
When I was a kid, I thought adults, all adults, not just my parents but all these people in suits or hardhats or fancy dresses were grown ups with answers.
I thought they had it figured out, that they knew what they were doing.
I was sure that someday, when I was an adult (and I kept trying to set an age for that, 18, 25, 30, 35,40,50,60,70,90…) I would have things figured out.
Instead, I found myself continually having to “fake it” because I didn’t know, did not have the answers. “The right thing to do” never just mysteriously appeared to me.The closest thing I ever got to “the answers” was when I realized that no one “had the answers” and that everyone is “faking it” or feels like they are faking it and putting on public face that masks their own internal insecurities.
I think you really realize this when your own parents get old and you finally figure out that they are just people, like you, who make mistakes, who look to you for answers as equals and eventually as the person who “knows”
The Author GuyMemberThat seems likely.
Certainly the Gravatar option is probably the best/easiest since it’s effectively universal.
Azure was “interesting” I used the new interface/system for this site, which is much better than the old one although still lacking some critical features…you know like backup…
While still byzantine, it has a lower learning curve and is (not coincidentally) less customizable than aws.
My problem with AWS is that it is so flexible it quickly gets complex and unexpectedly expensive; they charge for every little piece. I had one hell of a time shutting down a client and making sure everything was deleted so they were not still being charged.
Azure has a much more inclusive pricing model that is easier to understand/control.
However, that being said, the only real reason I went there is that I get a $100/month credit as a MS Business Partner; that brought the cost of the VM to on par with what I had been paying for a dedicated box (that actually had more resources)
Where I am now is in my own cloud; which I’ve sort of “bought into” as a partner/reseller so I can offer my clients more cost efficient VM solutions on a fully monitored/managed platform that I provide a first line of interaction. So far, the support I get as a partner is well beyond what I ever got from AWS, Google and Azure, and is frankly better than Rackspace in terms of responsiveness.
My cost per VM, all in, is 25% what I was paying at Azure for the same procs/ram, and the disk performance is far better than Azure Standard or AWS Standard.
Point being is that I can offer my clients half the cost of the big guys and still make a profit. Of course while the DataCenter is SOC2 compliant etc. I am not going to push to move high intensity production here (for one thing as Tier 1 HD, I can’t stay awake 24×7); as a cheap DR site or for Dev VM’s it’s a great lower cost option.
The Author GuyMemberWell, I did post that a week or so ago, but do not hold me to repeating it exactly as it is fluid.
Really need to do the Apostles (Shamans) stories. In particular Etterdam where the battle was and elves are now (Ragala). Astlan (Tal Gor & Nimbus) , Ithgar (Rupert, Fer Rog, Beya) and maybe some Romdan and Farsooth.
Then there is Exador and the Storm Lords and Freehold
Then there is the Inferno story which will interact with:
Tom, Vaselle, Talarius, Stainsberry Hilda, Beragamos. And actually, this will all tie out to Etterdam & Ragala.
Oh, and the Nyjyr Ennead start to make some moves…
And then Tizzy & Rede and people from CoA:ITA (and Storm Lords) start coming together–but this will probably not hit fruition right away, although that might postpone Freehold a bit more.
So that’s a lot of stuff and I have no idea how it all gets crammed in over the course of the story.
I will probably know that at about 25% to 30%.
In particular:
Etterdam Doom, Risar, Tom etc tie out to the mystery of what happened to Orcus. Which involves everyone/thing.
Astlan Doom and the Nimbus tie out to the Alvar, Sentir Fallon, Lilith
Ithgar Doom with Rupert & Fer Rog will likely open more worm cans than it closes, simply because Rupert & Fer Rog are demon kids with Beavis and Butthead orc buddies, and well…that just doesn’t go smoothly as you can imagine. Hmm, that might have to spin off into a mini-series before coming back inline.
The Author GuyMemberNP on the answer.
Sony is blocking video in the US…
The Author GuyMemberYes, for the folks at the Outpost
1) If their godpools or pantheon pools are on the prime material plane, they should be able to access them from the Abyss.
2) if their godpools or pantheon pools are in the Outer Planes, then they could not access them in the AbyssCertainly all the other gods have their godpools in the Outer Planes, the question is, do the Nyjyr Ennead have their pools on the moon or in the Outer Planes?
Of course, we don’t actually know what a god pool nor a pantheon pool is. We assume it is a super powered manapool, but those have very real limits particularly in that they aren’t shareable for the most part. It’s not even safe for an individual to have links to multiple mana pools at the same time. You have to get rather tricky to do this for fear of feedback/crosstalk affects. Yet the gods seem to have done this, somehow, they can relay mana from their personal god pool to their clerics, and they can allow their avatars access to these pools to dispense to clerics…somehow
The inability/difficulty in linking multiple mana pools (not a problem for god/pantheon pools and magic items apparently) is a big part of the “magineering” done in creating Doom in the first place. Technically, whatever is being done to create Doom’s batteries seems, at initial inspection, to violate what wizards know about mana pools. You shouldn’t be able to hook a bunch of them together. So something is different about Doom.
God pools and pantheon pools do not appear to have these limits either. So what and where are they? How are they different than Doom’s batteries?
If they are on the outer planes, why isn’t someone guarding them? Can they be stolen? Damaged? That can certainly happen to a regular mana pool.
Note, that if Tom was to travel to the Outer Planes, he would not/should not/have access to Doom’s power supply.
However, he would have access to the power supply of a Doomalogue located on material planes. Which in turn, could draw from Doom. Think of it as a relay.
SOOOOOO….ooooohhhhhhhhh
Back to the Outpost….
Even if the Nyjyr Ennead God Pools and Pantheon Pools are in the Outer Planes (and it is something like that), why could they not build a relay system on the moon(s) for it? So they could get the power to the Abyss?
Clearly if Phaestus and Volund built Doomalogues, which could relay power to Orcus in the Outer Planes (if need be); Phaestus could build such a relay station for his fellow Nyjyr Ennead.
Or so one would certainly think.
So why wouldn’t he?
The Author GuyMemberYeah, I am sure that would horrify him.
Think about being an intelligent (mostly) inanimate object for thousands of years?
However, the stuff that was cut from Book 2, to be moved to Seas of Astlan has a character that is a wizard and a crown, that is worn by either his apprentice or a golem. Not to be confused with Marcus, who appeared to be a talking box to Asmeth on his ship. He is just someone who stupidly wished for immortality and got it. Currently, all that is left of him is head. Earrings of Regeneration work much more slowly than rings of regeneration, unfortunately for him.
The Author GuyMemberAnd even then he’s so uptight…well to paraphrase Ferris Bueller if you stuck demon weed up his bum, you’d end up with crystal weed…
It would probably take a lot.
Actually, to be fair, he has probably used DW and is probably very experienced with it as a tool. He is also good enough that he would put up one hell of a fight.
The thing to keep in mind, much to Exador’s frustration, Lenamare has been able to go toe to toe with Exador, an archdemon that is thousands of years old…
Of course, if Tom wanted to really piss off Exador, he could threaten to do exactly what you suggest…
The Author GuyMemberNo one knows what happens to KoC’s after ‘death’ it is believed they do reform but…
Commanders of Chaos and knights Commanders do not seem to have bodies other than their suits of armor which are used to contain “Chaos” whatever that is. There is speculation that they are more like golems or elementals than “people” Commanders of Chaos seem to behave more like people, and on some level can be reasoned with, despite not talking. KoC’s generally attack first, last and always.
If you somehow open the visor you see Chaos and it can drive some people insane.
This raw energy, after the first few was sucked up by doom as raw energy. Not sure where the animus would have went, if there was animus particularly without much mana around.
I suppose they might make their way “home” eventually, but it would take them along time. At the very least they would need to wait until after Tom returned things to normal to collect enough mana to flee.
What I can say is that not even Lilith knows the answers to these questions.
As far as Lenamare, yes it could be amusing, but I think once rumors get back to him that he was the demon’s patsy, possibly his warlock. That will be even more amusing.
Tom does not like Lenamare. he really does not want to have anything to do with the guy. So my thought would be that the more Lenamare is not in the picture, the better for Tom, he has enough on his plate. Why invite the frustration of dealing with such a jerk.
The place to play with the link between summoned and summoner would probably be Tizzy and Gastrope. However, understand that all of these are “bindings” not links.
That’s actually a big difference, bindings are “one way links” The wizards have gone out of their way to make sure that the demons can’t use the bindings in reverse.
Typically the best thing that can happen is that a demon tries to reverse the binding and the binding breaks/shatters. This would be on purpose as a failsafe. That being said…an animage demon could probably do some nasty.I would not put a binding on an archdemon or higher, unless it was pretty well tested by others and even then….
The Author GuyMemberYes, I debated about the (n). But I finally decided that I liked the way adding the n made it sound to someone in English. In German it would be pronounced so quickly that I doubt you’d notice it one way or the other when speaking. But an English speaker would pronounce it much slower, more like two words.
German is a remarkable language for its ability to concatenate words to provide single words with richer meaning. For example all sorts of emotions like schadenfreude. It’s positively brilliant. I wish English had more words to describe complex things simply.
