I’m always looking for new books to read, but it can be hard to find new stuff on Amazon…there is a look of CR@P out there….so I thought I’d start a few forum threads listing out some of may favorite books in the different genres – if you have any that you can recommend please add to the list..
Another good kind of litRPG is the Daniel Black series. Book one has some more adult theme parts so if you can’t read that or get offended by it then i would skip the series. But i think over all on of my all time favorites.
I wouldn’t classify the Black Coven series as litRPG – more fantasy based – similar to the Portals of Infinity series by John Van Stry – where a person from our world gets sucked into an alternative world / universe by a god (or some other 3rd party) to save that world……would also include works like Delvers LLC, and the Destiny’s Crucible series by Olan Thorensen in this…

There is no concept of character leveling or quests in these works, which is what sets the litRPG genre apart from the standard fantasy stories

Finished the Awakened Online book – was ok, but I wouldn’t put it in my Top 5 books / series in the litPRG genre

Well, why not….we already have Gravity cannons….from the space faring Orcs…

The Gravity cannons create a weaponized version of the Geomatic engines / drives (I think this is the term) on the Inferno or very similar……so, why not have spell shields that disrupt the mana frequencies…

I’ve read the Confessions of a D-List Supervaillain and enjoyed all 3 books…but have read any of the others…

another one that I enjoyed in this genre was “No Master Plan Here (Madness Runs in the Family Book 1) by Joel Burdick” – only drawback is that the author has not written any additional books in the series in the last 3 years.

Thought I’d start a thread to discuss who you think should hook up – either casually or permanently..

    Here are my thoughts….

Tom & Inethya, the Prophetess of Nysegard – (my reasoning is in the Singkun thread)

Jenn & Gastrope – I think that everyone agrees that this will happen – sometime

Sammael The Dark One & Serah, Sir Lady Knight Rampant of Tiernon – I only see this as a casual thing

Hilda & Trisfelt – again I think that everyone agrees that this will happen

Vaselle & Tamarin – there seem to be some chemistry between them when working in the forge / labs at Mt Doom

Talarius Knight Rampant of Tiernon & ???? – I don’t see Talarius hooking up with anyone, too self-centered, unless his “bro-mance” with Sir Stainsberry changes and he decides that he’s gay or bi

Zelda Steward of the Mount & ???? – don’t see anything for Zelda at the moment

Tal Gor El Crooked Stick & ????? – I think Tal Gor is too young and still too unsure of himself to be looking for a lady friend

Rupert & ???? – again I think Rupert is too young

Reggie & ??? – don’t see anything permenant – he’s having too much fun catting around

Maelen & ???? – don’t see any potential romantic involvements here

Damien Council Inquisitor & ???? – don’t see any potential romantic involvements here
Anyone else have any ideas for potential partners, based on what has occurred in the books so far…..
So if we turn Doom into a giant theme park, perhaps we can then capture the Inferno, paint it red call the Big Red Flying Boat and offer cruises kind of like that mouse did.
I would have thought that the color yellow would be better….then you can have a theme song for it…”Yellow Submarine”
Wow, where are the classics of fantasy?

Chronicles of the Black Company – Glenn Cook
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant – Stephen Donaldson
Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon series – Michael Moorcock
Chronicles of Amber – Roger Zelazny
    Belgariad – David Eddings
Riftwar saga – Raymond E. Feist
Fafhrd and Grey Mouser – Fritz Leiber
Sword of Truth – Terry Goodkind (This is a love or hate series, latter for me, but is indelibly part of the fantasy landscape)

    Other notable series
Tale of Malazan book of the Fallen – Steven Erikson
    Blood Song – Anthony Ryan
    Jhereg – Steven Brust
The Belgariad & Malloreon series by David Eddings and the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffery were the series that first got me hooked on reading fantasy as a young teenager…..but they’re not what I would recommend for adult readers today – they are still good series but more suited to a young audience just being introduced to the genre IMO.

I enjoyed the Riftwar saga by Raymon E. Feist and the subsequent spin-off series, and used to buy each new book (many times in Hardcover) when released – until he started to kill off my favorite characters from the first books – I gave up on the books when he killed off Jimmy the Hand – I don’t think I’ve even gone back and re-read any of the previous books since that happened.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant drove me nuts – just consistent whining from the MC about him being sick and not believing anything he saw.

Because the Djinn are unaware about how Orcus died (because if they did I would assume that is the one piece of critical information that Tamarin would have be given before coming to Mount Doom and joining Tom) – I would assume that the Djinn with Orcus was trapped in the interdiction and died with Orcus…

So the revelation about how Orcus died would finally give the Djinn a target for revenge for the Djinn’s death…..I would assume that the Djinn had not retaliated so far is that they did not have proof who or how Orcus and his Djinn died – so could not act….
That’s better…

Does Jenn know that Tom is a Demon Prince at this stage??? I’m trying to read back through – but haven’t been able to find the timing of that revelation yet.

EDIT: Just re-read the relevant sections in Chapter 140. Jenn knows that Tom is more powerful then a Greater Demon and that the D’Orcs now call him Lord Tommus. Also that he has taken over Mount Doom and had a battle with Lilith….but she doesn’t seem to have made the connection that Tom is now a Demon Prince….you might need to tweek some of the conversation between Jenn and Gastrope to highlight the change of status of Tom in Jenn’s mind in the “Astlan, Stone Finger Camp: Mid-Fifth Period” scene.
This still needs to be addressed in before Beta1

She was not sure who she was more upset with, Gastropé, Edwyrd, Damien or herself for being blind to these shenanigans. Probably Edward: while surprisingly skilled, he was, like Gastrope, still young and inexperienced. Taking a little kid like Rupert plane hoping with what now turned out to be a demon prince was stupidity on a scale that she could barely even comprehend. And as for Damien, a Councilor of Wizardry should have had more common sense than to continue any sort of cooperation with the demon Tom.
I’m still having problems with the “still young and inexperienced” part…..when Jenn is thinking of Edwyard. 8-[

I’m fairly certain that Maelen had convinced or explained to Jenn how Edwyard was older and quite skilled and well trained in bk1. Chapter 63.
“What!” Jenn screeched.  “All that nonsense for this garbage!  How do you expect us to believe that!  Edwyrd is Rupert’s cousin.  There is no way Edwyrd could be old enough to be Rupert’s father.  You’re crazy, demon!”
Gastropé felt almost the same way.
Maelen, on the other hand, was looking thoughtful, stroking his chin.
Tizzy just looked at Jenn, smiling, not caring what she believed.
“Hold off, Jenn,”  Maelen admonished her.  “It may not be impossible.  I’d really been wondering how anyone so young could be as well trained and skilled as Edwyrd.  Now it makes more sense. “
“How can it make more sense?”  Jenn demanded, incredulously.
“Well, simple.  He’s a lot older than he looks,”  Maelen stated as if were the most natural thing in the world.
“Well obviously!  That explains it!”  Jenn said sarcastically. “Nobody looks that much younger!”
“Really, Jenn?  It’s not that hard for a powerful wizard or animage to slow the aging process, or even reverse it.  How old do you think I am?”  Maelen asked.
Jenn just shook her head.  “I don’t know!  Sixty, sixty-five.”
“I started healing people over seventy-five years ago.  When I was only a little younger than you.”
Gastropé and Jenn both looked at him in surprise.  “You’re saying you are like ninety?”  Gastropé asked.  He couldn’t believe it.
“Ninety-two next quarter month, to be exact,”  Maelen declared.  “So you see, it’s not impossible that Edwyrd could be in his thirties or forties, or even older.  He’s just good enough that either he doesn’t age, or he can make himself younger.  It would certainly not be inconsistent with the other things I’ve seen him do. He could even just shape change himself younger.”
“I guess,” Gastropé admitted, “that you could be right.  After all, I know of a lot of wizards that are over a hundred.  Human ones.  Elves or dwarves would certainly be that old.”
Jenn looked rather defeated.  “Yeah, I just find it hard to believe.  You don’t think of people that powerful tramping around in the woods, being hunted by religious fanatics.  That’s for us little people to do.  People like that are the Lenamares or Jehennas.  Always in charge, always in control, running things from a comfortable position.”
“Well, whatever the case, they’ll have some explaining to do when they get back,”  Gastropé stated.  “By the way, how are they getting back?”
Just a thought – if you want Jenn to think that Edwyard is young and inexperienced – maybe through in a line or two about how she just can’t accept Maelen’s idea that Edwyard is older
Shock, that has been my job from time to time. Worst was when our project team had 6 consultants over from India. Smart guys, knew English, couldn’t write well worth a damn. 65 pages of notes was their spec. I ask if their colleges ever covered technical writing and document presentation as a course. They said no. No!

I spent a 8, 14 hours a day converting those documents in section, paragraphs, and even worse, the formatting, oh the inconsistent formatting and badly built table. Eventually they were professional enough to turn over. Just, yeesh. I’ve yet to have a moment like that where I wish I was better paid.
Ditto..

I spent 3 years reviewing specs and trouble shooting our Indian consultants for SOA designs….

Of the 5 years I spent in total contracting to that organisation, I did nothing but write or review documents – didn’t get to write a single line of code….but considering the organisation was willing to pay contract Solution Architect rates for me to review documents, I wasn’t going to complain :-“

Tiernon will not be handing Sentir Fallon over to Tom. Judges (hopefully) don’t turn criminals bound and gagged over to the victims.
Although, Tom does have a handy prison that Tiernon has used before

    good points….

Question – If Exador can do an Abysmal switch – is there anything reason he couldn’t do a switch with another world?? say Astlan – and dump the Storm Lords outside Freehold???

Starting to think that playing off one of Orcus’s titles might be good…

At the end of bk3 – the cat is out of the bag so to speak – that people (outside of the D’Orcs) are starting to think that Orcus has returned….I assume that this idea is going to spread to all the various groups in bk4 – and to them become a known ‘fact’ – no matter what Tom thinks of the situation himself

Any chance that your loyal minions could purchase signed dead tree copies of your books from your site????

I collect a lot of ebooks, but I also like to collect physical versions of books from my favorite authors….
