And The land book 6 came out.
Thanks for the heads up – just purchases it….Amazon hasn’t emailed me about the book release yet……sometimes I wonder what good the “Follow” option for authors is on Amazon – you don’t get notified about new book releases for at least a week or two after the release day…..](*,)

Looking forward to the new Ascend Online – will be a good b’day present
And what the hell is up with Anderle? He’s been putting out a book a month for years. Does the man sleep, like, at ALL?
He’s probably a demon from the Abyss – they don’t need to sleep.

Tizzy – you ever heard of a demon named Michaleanderle???
only one i enjoyed was the Pax Arcana series, all the others didn’t really draw me in
have you tried the Journey to Wudang series, Dark Heavens series, Celestial Battle series by Kyle Chan??

They are a bit different from the others that I listed…..based on Chinese mythology…..lots of Chinese demons, Gods, Demi-Gods, Bodas, Ancestors, and Shen (animal and nature spirits), etc…..but set in modern day Hong Kong…and one of the main characters is actually the Chinese God of Martial Arts…so lots of fighting and various martial art related stuff

The Author is actually from my home city, but lived in Hong Kong for 10 years with her husband….
Huh no Tolkien or rothfuss?
Tried to read Tolkien about 20 years ago – remember reading about the first 17 pages of The Hobbit – and put the book down – I just couldn’t read it……watched the first 3 movies based off the books and was bored the entire time……

Another series you may enjoy – was first published back in the early ’80s, and is now available on Kindle…..excellent series, 7 books in total, unfortunately the author died before writing the last book, and the last book was written by his wife (I think)

Also the Borderlands series by Lorna Freeman – it’s very hard to track down ebook copies of this series….was the start of a good series with the first 3 books, but unfortunately the author had a dispute with her publisher and has not written / released any books since 2010

Also the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher….for a series that was written as a Bet it was really good…..for those of you that don’t know, Jim got into an arguement with someone online about whether he could write a good book based off a stupid idea…he upped the anti by betting that he could write a book on 2 totally different ideas – he was challenged to write a book based on the ideas of Pokemon and a Lost Roman Legion….and the Codex Alera series was born

Not going to happen…[-x

I can write a technical document with no problems……but can’t seem to string two words together to make an interesting fiction story…..

Although always thought writing a tongue-in-cheek version of the book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” book based on computer terms would be funny – was going to call it “Men run DOS, Women run Unix” -based on the idea that men in general can’t multi-task while women can 8-[

….thinking about it, it could be interesting to write a story from the perspective of the Tartarus AII point of view…..

….. [blush] been reading way too much of the LitRPG genre lately, with lots of the sentient AIs
However, I did read Dungeon Born (The Divine Dungeon #1) which is a seriously weird take on LitRPG.
That is one of the books I’ve read lately – enjoyed it, but that was largely due to the fact that I created a D&D adventure based on this idea about 15 years ago – and ran my players through it…..

I think that best ones I’ve read so far are…..

Mirror Word series by Alexey Osadchuk (Book 1 Project Daily Grid)
Ascend Online by Luke Chmilenko
The Chaos Seeds Series by Aleron Kong (Book 1 The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga)
The Realm of Arkon Series by G. Akella (Book 1 Patch 17)

I think Ascend Online is the best one that I’ve read so far in this genre, followed closely by the Realm of Arkon series

Maybe if we ask TAG very nicely – he could create a new category in the Forum for General (non-Astlan) related discussions – we could start a thread to list recommended books / series to read while waiting for the next installment of Astlan.

I’m a book-a-holic, read about a book a day….and finding it hard to find good books to read…

Started out reading High Fantasy about 30 years ago, have progressed through Military Sic-Fi & Urban Fantasy..

Only stumbled upon the LitRPG over the last couple of months when looking through Author discussions on Amazon for new books to read that where recommended by other readers.
Really? What’s your top 5 litrpgs then?
1. Ascend Online by Luke Chmilenko
2. Realm of Arkon series by G. Akella
3. Chaos Seeds series by Aleron Kong
4. Mirror World series by Alexey Osadchuk
5. Number 5 is a toss up between “LitRPG: Play to Live” series by D. Rus or “The Selfless Hero Trilogy” by William D. Arand

As I mentioned, I’ve only just stumbled onto LitRPG in the last 6 – 8 weeks – so this is my Top 5 list so far….although I have read a lot of it in that time….some I just haven’t been able to get into due to the poor translations from Russian…..others the start of the book turned me off and I didn’t get any further into the book

Here is a bit of a left field thought…..for a romantic partner for Tom

What about Inethya, the Prophetess of Nysegard..

Reasoning….
1. They have fought together against a “Great Evil” – people that fight together in a desperate battle tend to forge strong bonds of friendship / companionship
2. Inethya knows (or sort of knows) what Tom is already – so no need for the secret identity / reveal
3. She has her own power, so there is not going to be the whole inequality of power thing
4. Being a Prophetess of Nysegard, they don’t have the same negative view of Orcus / D’Orcs as people from Astlan
5. She is going to want to find out about the comment that Tom made about being Tiernon’s step-brother
6. She is going to want to find out the truth behind the withdrawal of Tiernon’s people from Nysegard
7. She is used to working with beings / people from all different races – so no big surprises from all the people hanging around Tom
8. She seems to be a bold warrior – can see her doing the chasing
9. They have been intimate in a metaphysical sense – when Tom invaded her link to Tiernon – she is going to want to find out more about that, as well

She’s the “older” woman too….maybe should change her title to….”Inethya, the Cougar of Nysegard”
All holy artifacts are made with purified mana, and then the priests seal it/dedicate with the god’s signature/nature/etc.
Just a semi-random thought for the morning…but could the actual process of refining mana by a god’s priest be actually compressing the mana and tuning it to a specific “freguency” – where each “god” has their own inherent frequency…mana that has been refined and tuned is very easy for those “in tune” with the frequency to use – for others is powerful but doesn’t quite fit with their own “frequency” so they can use it but it’s not the most comfortable or easy thing to do…

Thinking along the lines of physics with resonant frequencies, harmonics, etc

From Wikipedia
In physics, resonance is a phenomenon in which a vibrating system or external force drives another system to oscillate with greater amplitude at a specific preferential frequency.

Increase of amplitude as damping decreases and frequency approaches resonant frequency of a driven damped simple harmonic oscillator.
Frequencies at which the response amplitude is a relative maximum are known as the system’s resonant frequencies or resonance frequencies. At resonant frequencies, small periodic driving forces have the ability to produce large amplitude oscillations, due to the storage of vibrational energy.
This would fit with why certain times or phases of the moon effect spells for wizards…

To be a mana wielder – need to be able to detect the basic mana frequency……..the mana frequency changes over time due to factors such as different phases of the moon, etc – so some times it is easier to cast spells at certain times of the luna month then others…

Also, alternate universes have a different inherent base mana frequency – hence the mana / magic works differently in each universe – and some the frequency is so different that mana wielders can not connect with the frequency – hence tech universes
