Sorry I didn’t mean you personally I meant it in the context of other soul entities. Their is a slight delay, but in Astlanian terms it would be some body who can manipulate souls, like a necromancer takes soul A, which would likely have little to no defense.

Soul A is normally prepared in advance, but it is the component soul if you would. Soul B is likely guarded or the target of the attack. Soul A will then be placed near soul B and will then be forcibly inserted. The two souls will then meld so that they will mix briefly between the two bodies before being pulled into the body of soul B. This process happens both ways. The process is also very painful and takes little time once started. If soul B seeks a new host it will still draw in soul A. It effectively forces a soul entity like a lich to choose eternal insanity or to move on. If soul B quickly moves on soul A will just go into a coma for quite some time due to foreign soul and missing soul bits, it recovers, but it is unpleasant.

It takes some prior preparation for the spell, but the two souls to be merged don’t need to be selected till execution, soul entities are just chosen as the conductor as they could flee to the phylactery and resist or flee the pull with enough preparation or will. A non soul entity would have no defense at all and would be under the complete sway of the spell. Few people have real defenses against soul magic and this could be simplified to telling one soul its positive and the other is negative. If both entities were powerful they would likely be damaged but would survive after a long recovery time, but in most occasions they would both be destroyed as they were fused together. It is a crude and effective skill for decimating souls, and the more powerful the soul the worse the effects. At least from one of the mythos I read, but liches were the only thing that had them on hand as it took time to prepare, it took skill to prepare, and they used it on each other.

I’m not the best at in depth explanations of all subject. Due to my lack of knowledge of all things.

A demon can possess a body, so could a demon construct a soulless body and then possess it to create a solid form that could then be used to mask their demonic form. It would be perfect camouflage and they could survive the bodies death.

A demon’s body is put together by a wizard’s spell, so could a demon over time modify their body to be better than it was at it’s own creation. Like slowly upgrading a machine. Gradually upgrading an avatar in that you gradually upgrade equipment. The base avatar is the same, but the specs are all superior as they have higher values around the board.

I volunteer DevilHeart77, as intelligent as he is, he will be able to make a few observations before being crushed. Out of curiosity in many works necromancers have some form of soul meld spell. It is very simple and forces two different souls to merge as one, normally resulting in insanity. What would happen if used on two demons, demons are often viewed as insane by mortals, but often with various forms of insanity. I ask because if the river is some form group conscious it will not be doing much as most of those people will think of themselves as powerless and damned.

I know the astlanian people think demons should be horned, evil, and ugly, but do they have any attractive demons like cubi (succubus/incubus), that whisper in the ears of men and try to corrupt them with their beauty? Also why haven’t demon’s ever abducted large numbers of mortal women to rape for numbers, little energy on their part, and a lot of demonic humans and nongreater demons. Also can demons breed with all inhabitants of astlan, or are they limited to humans?
Also how do nonhumans, view demons and are they smart enough not to summon them? Demons need mages to summon them to reach astlan, but want to corrupt it, thus ignore them and all is good.

So are the younger draconian demons also immortal and sent to the abyss when they die?
Also don’t most dragons attack humans and human demons on sight, so how is it that they progressed to being not outright hostile and became I would guess dangerous if approached incorrectly? Sounds like a great story.
Also wouldn’t dragons be summoned in the same way as demons, and if so how could they be so stupid as to not recognize it, or do whatever the demons come from appear different from demons in the astral plane.

Do all things poses a true name living an inanimate. Like certain objects of power have unique names and certain objects have common names that give on more control over it like in the Eragon where you can summon the essence of an object or bring it’s potential to it fullest. As a true name gave one complete control over the person or object in question, but I would guess it isn’t so extreme in this novel as demons can still resist to an extent in that without a connection they can resist those with knowledge of their name.

How long will the second book be, if you are going for speed it’s long enough, but when did he start typing the book, if it started after the first was published he types fast. and once more i suggest beta testing for small typos and minor critique to better express your thoughts for the novel.

We should talk about Rupert more often in this forum as Jenn obsessed over Rupert for some unknown reason, and he should start aging himself again Tom knows what he should kind of look like as they do look alike, and Tom will claim to once more to be cousins. How would people react to Rupert being a rank 4 half demon and how are they viewed in general. Demons are evil, but what of the half demons. Tom does however look awful suspicious by circumstantial evidence. No definitive proof mind you, but the circumstantial evidence is just so damning that without viewing things from Tom’s perspective I would find it difficult to believe.

Circumstantially he is a centuries old demon who is greater than a fourth with a child who is a fourth that has figured out how to steal the power of the gods and did so after desecrating a temple of one of the most zealous gods, provoking the oorzomothians who even made a legal treaty with the abyss. And did so by making a large spectacle of the thing in a fashion that would make him the most feared demon currently on the plane. Fear is an emotion that might bring animus to him. Not sure how that works.

Still I cannot wait to discover their real relation and I hope Tom’s efforts to escape boredom and slavery will award him with power beyond imagination that will cause him to live up to Rupert’s expectations as some form of demonic messiah towards freedom and better living conditions and Jenn’s expectations of an ancient horror with power beyond comparison and thoughts and plans outside mortal comprehension that seeks to overthrow the gods, which should be done for power and it’s what all the demons do in VG that tom likely read of.

Their is 1 rank 7 demon who is missing, so the demon princes and archfiends are trying to establish power. Rank 6, 5, and maybe a few rank 4 greater demons. I know they compete for power due to references, but it is hard for me to guess if politics is done in boredom or for actual position. The abyss would be more interesting if demons could siphon power from each other. But no rank 8 exists, though on the continuum of power how quickly can one grow. I believe as animus is dictated by experience, somebody new to the world would grow more quickly than one who is familiar with it. Also somebody who always chooses to try new things would get more than somebody who does the same thing repetitively. But how would this translate and are their certain things a demon could do to increase this natural process?

In regards to the whole army thing, what does the current population of astlan look like on a global scale, about how many demons are their, and what happens to other races when they die?

The Sidhe are returned to nature, and what happens to beings like what are summoned by necromancers? What happens to demons is vague and i have no idea how having one’s soul tampered with fits in with the world.

Also since Tom can follow a chain could he view a person’s afterlife based upon their belief? Could he become a god among demons by allowing them to reverse summon themselves to their masters while they are asleep, vulnerable and without protection?

Magic can allow one to do things that would otherwise be impossible and one could simply use strength to accomplish what they want. A smart mana wielder would use the most efficient design in a given situation but this would originally involve somebody very knowledgeable in the field in which they are manipulating, but how things would eventually play out would very between the various groups. Wizards are set to auto and have the spell do everything for them. They often don’t see how the magic reacts at every step and simply see the end result. If one can’t use a spell they are simply to weak. It also takes a lot of time and effort to make new spells, so they normally study in their field. Animages use a manual manipulation and would require extensive knowledge in the field from which they are manipulating.

Also will Tom take an actual liberal approach to animagic and ask to be tutored in other fields? He looks young and know enough to look partially taught, but not enough to appear trained. He could claim he was apprenticed to an animage who died during his training while he was still young, but after he had learned to read. This would be less suspicious than a liberal who avoids masters of other crafts. Though using linkamancy to unbind himself and astralmancy to visit astlan would be a nice combo. If demons could open and close portals at will they could just assasinate any body who could oppose them or increase their numbers with mortal women, as most of the energy is provided for by demons with that method.

I just assumed that demons had means of observing things other than light. Just because we need light to visually perceive things doesn’t mean all beings would need them. Sharks have 6 senses supposedly so their is nothing limiting demons to the five that humans have. Also humans tend to have very poor senses in general and are visual dominated. We can distinguish more colors than most animals, but have a harder time seeing things from a distance, or in the dark. Most of are other senses are joke in comparison. Demons just don’t seem so limited. Many animals can perceive things we can’t, but for reference what is the difference in sensory detail between humans and demons.

Well for one Lenamore just bombarded the substance with energy, and found it went boom, without any understanding of the properties of the matter or their effects on humans apart from instability. People believe magic glows and a giant non-glowing magical explosion would be shocking. Demons also have much better eyesight than humans and likely have a broader visible spectrum than them. Not sure how far it extends, but he did admit all his senses improved. It is strange to observe how they use magic to obsere effects and have difficulty understanding the cause of things.

It’s like doing A leads to the causation of B. So they accept the fact and move on without much further analysis as to why this happens. They also no of smaller particles such as cells, but I am currently unaware of how technologically advanced they are. They likely exceed or match the technological levels of some people if you include magic, but are likely not that advanced as the knowledge isn’t very widespread as of yet. As tech rises it gradually seeps into the populace, but they are limited by their mana wielders as only their magical knowledge seems to grow at any decent rate and that is still up for some debate as their superstitions pollute some of the data which they draw and thus alters their perceptions of magic into a refined image that masks its pure nature so how advanced they are likely various based on the mindset of the leading mana wielders in the area.

What would happen if somebody tried to use canonization on a demon in mortal form. Would they end up as a demonic saint, saint, demon, or have something else happen?
