I would agree with Maou, that’s how it seems to work.

The place is very weird. Unfortunately, one of the best experts on it is Vice Chancellor Dante of Oorstemoth.

However, being Oorstemothian, he’s hard to interview since pretty much everything he knows is Extra Super Special Fundamentally Trans Top Secret.

He will be joining us in Book 2 as an FYI.

And in theory, one can summon angels. There is a precedent for this within religious mysticism. Typically priests are doing it. They don’t do it among the Etonians, as far as I know, but I have heard of some religions where it is done.

In particular, dark religions may summon dark avatars for reasons similar to demon summoning.

Probably not Saints, have to ask Hilda.

I was beginning to think Maou was Oorstemothian and trying to overwhelm us by encoding all his messages in giant walls of text.

It seems like something an Oorstemothian would do.

I’m not sure if you got this, in the written translation, but listening to them speak requires a huge amount of concentration on understanding them. Particularly given the accents….sheesh…

Yes, but my point remains…my text to speech program can’t translate that.

    What does it sound like?

I’m not much of a written word person, that’s why I hired a ghost writer…and at the rate he’s typing up book 2, he really must be a ghost…apparently takes lots of concentration to move each of the keys on the keyboard ectoplasmically or telekinetically or whatever it is ghosts do.

Thanks the author guy hogs all the credit but it’s really my story…

Yes a huge number of possibilities.

There is an old Chinese Curse: “May you live in interesting times.”

I am thinking it might be better stated as “May you live in a novel.”

Of course, the worst thing would be to live in a TV Show/Movie and be a supporting character (particularly if you have a red shirt). At least the stars know they’re going to live…

…unless that TV show is based on a book by George Martin, in which case, all bets are off and we are back to, “May you live in a fantasy novel.”

For some reason…a series of posts I hadn’t seen materialized between posts I’ve responded too.

Maybe my eyes are bad but I didn’t see the Maou as Japanese for demon king/adversary….

I only speak Abyssese so didn’t know that…probably should have…

What are you talking about future timeline? All this stuff happened in the past…20 years ago in fact!

You might want to recheck the timeline…

of course, if this really did happen 20 years ago, not sure how Paul got an IPod/music player to plug into his stereo…that would be

    AnaChronistic if not purely AniChronia

Very interesting theories in the last few posts…

I am going to stay far away from you guys though…you seem to be holding blue lightning rods and just begging to get hit.

Particularly when you say the gods are “elementals” if that’s not a vaporizing event, then I don’t know what is.

I remember the Anilords very well, they were extremely high powered animages, Ramses and Exador were demons from the start posing as animages, many of the others were definitely human, at least early on. The lines got very blurry and I soon stopped worrying about who was what, I was more concerned with who was going to do me harm.

For some odd reason, many of the anilords disliked me. Since they were a bad bunch, really pretty Evil; I assume they hated me because I’m so virtuous, helpful and good.

The one that hated me most was this Necromancer (oddly enough, necromancers predate wizards–go figure–I guess they were using animagic to do necromancy.) Really nasty Necromancer, he had all these plots and kept trying to convince the Alvar to make him rings for some reason. Fortunately, the Alvaran lords were “smart” enough to see through his various disguises and never made any of the rings he wanted

He had pretended that he wanted them made to help the various races and had this plan for 3 for the Alvar, seven for the Modgriensofarthgonosefren, and nine for humans. Oddly, he didn’t want one for himself…which to me would have spelled altruism but anyway, I think the Alvar really were just pissed they were only going to get 3.

Sure, after the fact, when the Necromancer was finally sent packing and expelled from Astlan permanently by the first wizards, the Alvar claimed they saw through him all along, but I’m not sure.

Well…remember the wizards don’t “know” that’s what they are doing. There is some sort of clue or joint dynamic between summoner and summonee regarding appearance…I don’t pretend to understand it.

As far as reshaping, remember most demons can’t shapeshift, at least not for very long/permanently. Not all Greater Demons can do it. I doubt any Major demons can at all. So really only ArchDemons and Demon Princes can and do reliably shape shift.

And trust me, they do. However, for reasons explained elsewhere, most don’t have more than a few base forms. You really have to practice them/use them to be able to maintain the different forms under duress and without expending excess mana and concentration.

consider this: the demon’s first form is their “lowest energy state” it doesn’t take any work to maintain it, it’s a default state. All other states require more energy to maintain. The more you use the other form, the less energy it takes to maintain it, but you really only so much time in a day…

So again, the older the demon, the more forms they are likely to have, I suspect some of the demon princes probably can shift rapidly and in combat, if they choose, but if they can, the only way you’d know about is if they did in the process of killing you…because I’d guess they’d also kill anyone who saw them materializing chainsaws on the ends of their arms….

    Hence demi-gods.

or half gods as it literally means.

If you look at the high tech gods, you know the Geeks, who’s gods lived on Olympus, making cameras, apparently…some children were mortal and died, others became minor gods.

    It’s all about the worshipers….

    Yep…

Except I think stealing the book is going to give him more problems than he wants.

Even more people will be after him. Right now, Lenamare doesn’t want anything to do with him, and the Peanut Gallery may be intrigued by him but they have no reason to go after him, particularly since he’s a huge unknown. They will want to keep their eye on their prize…if he steals the prize, then suddenly both Lenamare and the Peanut Gallery will be after Tom.

Tom would just like to get a grip on things as they are for the moment. But he’s got a hostage, Rupert and well…plenty of people to tell him how pissed the Rod and Tiernon are likely going to be.

Oh, and the Oorstemothians want to ajudicate “Lord Edwyrd” to permanent death by this point.

Where did I put my true name?

In an urn, buried underground in a deep dark place.

Maou does sound like a wizard’s name, lots of extra syllables hard to pronounce.
