Did 4 episodes last night. Or at least four, after having to disable 4 different smoke alarms, progressively further away, that kept going off, there was nothing to keep me from falling asleep while enjoying my pipe and the show, so I think I slept through a few and will need to rewatch.

Had a bit of trouble with the “new norse” but the “old norse” was definitely understandable, if heavily accented.

As is discussed in OOA, there are some limitations on the translation capabilities of “Universal” when it comes to recorded media. The further one is in time and space from the person recorded, the less intelligible it becomes.

Yes, these are clearly dwarf giants, which is I guess possible because they are distantly related species.

My explanation would be that they can change size. True risar can change their size, there is actually a discussion of it in Book IV.

Risar, like all immortals, can either be incarnated or using mana bodies. If using mana bodies, like demons and most avatars (except for Beragamos who is incarnated at the moment so he could get through the wards at Freehold) they can be any size they want.

If incarnated, in real bodies, they can use spells to shrink themselves or…

In this case, it looks like people are incarnating themselves, which is why they look different in the mirror than in the real world, so it’s possible they have chosen to incarnate in human sized bodies, possibly using human hosts for their souls (sort of like what happens with an Incubus).

That is similar to what Frigg tells Magne, although that’s very confusing because she mentions Thor, and Magne is Thor’s son, not a reincarnation of Thor.

Of course, if you are going to pick on things. Why are they calling their ancestors “Vikings”

Vikings are not a people, viking is something you do, and people doing it are called “Vikings” sort of like how workers “work” Danes went a viking as did the Norwegians and the proto-Swedish, Finns and everyone living up in that region.

You “go a viking” or just “go viking”

You would sort of think the Norwegians would know this…apparently the have not been listening to Ragnar Lodbrok.

Excellent question, given the right temperatures, all of the elements change form or phase.

Of course, temperature is an intrinsic property of the element of fire, which (fire) is thought of as the element of change.

You note that in the Abyss, where it’s HOT, the temperature is just below the phase change point of water to a steam, a para-elemental state.

I actually think there is a treatise written on this somewhere in the library on this site, but maybe it was a Doom or in Freehold, but I definitely remember reading about this somewhere.

Of course, the people who understand this best are the Djinn. It’s unfortunate that our resident Djinni isn’t in the forums or she could tell us directly.

I will look around to see if I can find that treatise.

Well, that’s the “sea level temperature” if we had a sea that is.

We do have lakes at very high altitudes. Circa twenty to thirty thousand feet. Even taller mountains have interesting flavors of ice.

The temperature is actually remarkabl7 consistent over altitude varying only a few degrees over several thousand feet.

Surprisingly, it doesn’t necessarily get hotter below “sea level” although in some places it does.

There are enough interesting “features” to the Abyss that things like altitude are not the sole determination of temperature. And some of those climate altering features are sentient so…well…you get the idea, things can get pretty wacky.

I mean, not as wacky as the Outer Planes where “might” literally makes “right” at least in terms of environment.

I can’t speak for all of them, just the ones I know about.

It all depends on what safeguards are put in place by the deities that live there.

For example Asgard isolated itself in such a way that the only way to get between there and Midgard, the material planes was via Asbru, their bridge.

Although there are rumors that there is a “back door” in Jotunheim that leads to Midgard but according to rumors it was only known to Odin (Loki hinted to me he knew of it).

So…anyway, they were pretty isolated and “buried” behind (or nested within) other Outer Planes.

But yes, in general the Outer Planes are very well fortified and protected, in particular since that’s where gods keep their god pools.

Encrypted…not so much, but they have defenses, including those big soldiers we saw in book II with Tiernon.

Hmm, based on the conversation, I am guessing Jehenna was rude at a dinner party and took some pieces of chicken that Bess wanted.

Cats love to eat birds, and Exador noted that Bess had bones to pick with Jehenna, so that’s probably it.

That would be the case, if that is the case…

Pretty sure “everyone” would be happy with 20 some thousand new Demon Princes!

    Which book is my book?

Are you saying Phaestus knows where my book is? I am looking for it, if you know where it is, let me know! I need to go check with Phaestus ASAP!

I know I put it somewhere, I just don’t remember where.

    Yes!

Martin is one of the best D’Urville actors in the Abyss.

He was a very popular series regular on “Justice for All” a very influential TV Show on one of the Earths, although I don’t recall which one.

Sam is not that great with gifts.

So normally, you wouldn’t be in much luck. However, a Cerebus Hound is something he has been known to give people, so maybe if you ever have any cubelings, you could write him a letter on their behalf.

[quote=Korwin;8208]That would explain Tizzy’s ability to smell the newcommers.

Not to be modest, but I have to admit that it’s not infallible. A nice hot tub of popcorn can really throw me off, bad.

Not most movie theater popcorn, that’s generally motor oil, however many art house and smaller chains use real butter and it’s very confusing.

Very attractive skin tone that master vampire has…

Actually much more realistic than most stuff produced on your planet.

Forgive me if we’ve discussed this before, but what is your culinary opinion on Jelly-fish?

    Or are they not Kosher-4-Cubes?

Hmm, well, we’ve seen the D’Arachnids…in the WG portal, and they will probably be seen again, that place has been getting busier by the day…

I strongly advise against seeing the Jellys, but I suppose if you drop by we could go on a safari for one…but I’ll want to fit you for a sky hook….

We may very well see some other unusual things in the books, not sure about the Jellies…

In particular Rupert should end up on a quest for in the Abyss, and it’s highly likely he will encounter fauna. But I think that’s book 5, he’s got some other things to do in Book 4.

    Interesting theory.

However, Hesselforthalus isn’t a Mind Reaver, he’s a Denubian. That means, he has a good supply of Denbian Choco-Coffee(TM).

Actually, as you will find out in Book IV, it’s not just a ‘good supply’ but literally ‘the supply.’

Hesselforthalus is the sole authorized distributor in The Abyss, which makes him a far more powerful archdemon than most.

However, even that is not the reason she fell for him. That will actually be revealed pretty early in Book IV.

Anyway, now that Doom is officially back, we need to find him to get the supply chain for our bars and restaurants turned back on.

Sure, barkeeps are making x-glargh from imported glargh, but a demon can’t live on that alone.
