MaouMember
So is their a state more anarchic than the abyss that seems to function, but that seems to be on the exact opposite end of the governmental spectrum from Oorstemoth and is still recognized as a state. I know this is highly unlikely, but does a place of greater anarchy than the abyss exist.
Quite frankly the abyss is quite organized and most fights are small scale or political as the demons seem to not fight directly as those who chose to do so have likely been weeded out by natural selection, unless they were really strong. Immortal hard to kill enemies who can pester you for eternity are very annoying and dangerous. Again this leads to demons trying to destroy each others connections, credibility, and assets. Tom is severely lacking in all of these and is thus a wild card.
I seem to have been sidetracked. Let’s get some more life and discussions about different interpretations and answers to what I have stated above.
MaouMemberJust to be clear it is impossible for a demon to unbind themselves and then rebind themselves with a new name in a horribly painful and soul altering process. First generation bound demons is branded into their bindings as that is always what wizards spells bind to.
MaouMemberRupert is what I assume is an unbound demon as he lacks that black thing in his chest. The book didn’t go into much detail, and from what I know it is unlikely Rupert’s true name is his given name, and it is unlikely a god gave him a true name. All the other demons had the black thing in their chest and all demons with a wizard they were bound to had a link to the wizard as an extension of this black thing. You can view the bar scene with Tom, Rupert, and Boggy for clarification of the event of which I speak.
MaouMemberIt is true that wizardry use linkmastery to a specialized extent, so it is quite possible that somebody proficient in this skill could be a wizard bane. A pyromaster is pretty much immune to fire and electricity as a specialization of pyromastery. So by extension a linkmaster should have complete control over links and not be much effected by them directly. Effectively a demon capable of ignoring commands, bypassing wards, and causing spell failure to increase in their vicinity.
Wizards likely have prepared defenses for their spells, but animages are rare, and those who obtain mastery of a field are uncommon. Since wizards use links anyways, linkmastery is likely not sought after to any great degree. They could not shape magic to the extent a wizard could, but if they learned wizardry and linkmastery they could likely customize spells on the fly to some extent, make it more difficult or impossible for other wizards to form the links needed for their spells, and become one of the most wanted targets for wizards to try and eliminate.
MaouMemberSo what instincts do a Demon have?
They really don’t have any real needs so are they controlled entirely by human desire unconstrained from a human body that would constrain them with physical emotions and limitions, or does their demonic body have certain behaviors hard wired within it.
MaouMemberWould it be possible for the same person to be summoned from multiple splinter realities or to have a relative from a splinter reality summoned after one of the branch points. While it is true that you could not visit any reality apart from the main stabilized realities, it could still be possible to summon souls from less stable realities before they collapsed due to a small difference as the loss of one soul in most instances wouldn’t change the grand scheme of things. This could be used to summon more souls than should exist. It might even allow somebody savvy enough to realize they could possibly some multiple variants of their soul to empower themselves giving them more energy as they collapsed in themselves.
Just a theory mind you as two souls that were identical at their creation should be able to merge without incident and would likely have a positive effect.
MaouMemberNo, but splinter realities in some instances have parallel versions of yourself. This changes in some interpretations to include all parallel world, but in this one it seems to be only a major event would change the general course of a world. Tom’s death could in theory be a minor event that got swept up by the primary timeline as he only died because he went to the party and he might not have gone in some instance. Stretching things a bit their, but people could die in splinter realities, but due to most iterations of themselves living they might go on, I am not an expert in parallel world so I won’t go into more detail.
A major event that causes a schism would result in two near identical worlds, and it would take a generation for the identical beings in both worlds to die off. For all I know due to Earth being a magic wasteland it might be hard to access the astral plane from the primary reality and only a slightly unstable and collapsible side reality might allow it. If Tom wasn’t snatched it is highly likely he would have thought himself to have been quite high and that he wasn’t smoking Mary Jane, but for all intents and purposes would likely not visit the astral plane again. The summons of the wizards might even have resonated with his reality and called him.
All this could be true, or it could be mad ramblings. My thought was merely that a reality without any significant magic would protect the soul of its inhabitants. Astlanians wouldn’t think to try and then use the demon to call out an identical soul. Demons wouldn’t have the knowledge or the drive to see if they could summon themselves as people all assume that if they were taken that they will be gone from their old world entirely, and some of them might in fact be the main version and a minority could be from side realities or vice versa.
MaouMemberThanks for the updates, I found it quite informative.
MaouMemberIt’s a trope that appears multiple times, but most of them are called to as monkey’s paws. They give you exactly what you wish for at first. Each successive wish is twisted and normally ends poorly. It can also be used to convey of meaning that what you want is not what you need.
MaouMemberDo the Oorstemothians have proper forms for coups? Also could you never go into great detail about their legal system. It would take far to long. It would get worse if one had to learn under what conditions one could outrank another. They have great memories over their.
MaouMemberMy prior post has been edited for clarity. I hope you can understand my better phrased thoughts.
MaouMemberSo is the book some form of monkey’s paw? If you don’t know what this is look it up and learn a little about culture and folklore.
MaouMemberI’m not allow within that loquacious lot of alliterating citizens I lack the ability to to speak in such a delightful manner, though I find it quite entertaining. Besides to annoy people I would use a simple cipher in small print and contrasting colors.
MaouMemberTwo things
1. Haven’t demons solved the writing issue? They have drinks and if needed they could use metals or something else.
2. What is the technological level of the Abyss? They mentioned tom was from a mid-tech world, and dragons are from high tech civilization. so how much have they implemented. because I think that the demons would have gone to great lengths to make televisions or radios at the very least.
MaouMemberWhite font should be ignored by Tizzy
Why were you chosen to present the history that will be known by future generations? Even in story you can’t remember past history well. Shouldn’t their be at least be somebody more competent/ qualified/ deserving/ sane/ anybody else willing to share these archives of what will likely be a key event in the Astlanian timeline. You seem to have lots of important business to conduct with Boggy. Not sure what it is, but you did mention that you were partners.
