In the rankings they are called AO’s but not sure when that would ever show up.

When in the who’s online, they are showing up as guests, I probably need to change that somewhere. Will search for it tonight.

Yes, people who keep talking about my pipe are obviously looking to get their hands on my stash.

It’s almost as annoying as that stupid incubus.

I’m not obsessed with him, but I just don’t think he’s honest and I’m afraid he might be telling lies about me.

In book 2, don’t trust anything he says, OK? (same for books 3 to 99)

Dragons are very confusing to me. I only know of the ones in the Abyss, personally. I hear stories about the ones and Astlan and they seem quite different. I don’t know anyone in the Abyss who’s talked to a dragon, but apparently people talk to the dragons in Astlan, or at least some dragons, sometimes, in some circumstances.

However, in both cases, the most common things is for the dragon to try and eat you.

I suppose if they ate enough humans they’d become familiar enough with them to shape change into them.

But the thing is, I am sure that if dragons can shapeshift, they aren’t telling anyone, for the same reasons demons don’t tell humans things like that.

That sort of knowledge causes widespread panic.

We really don’t want people making more mirrors like Tarlius had…that would be very inconvenient.

If you wikipedia Tarterus, it sounds a lot like the Abyss…

    Hmmm….

I’m not sure which thing you are referring to as ridiculous.

Opening a gateway to the “correct” plane is not a trivial as you might think. Even for the truly skilled, and then which planet do you open it to…how do you avoid opening a gate in the middle of deep space between planets?

We are talking an infinite number of near infinite planes, it is sort of like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Teleportation on a plane requires you to know where you to know your destination very well.
Runic Gateways require gates with links between them on both ends.
Astral Travel requires orientation in the Astral Plane and some sort of map or idea of where you are going and how to get there.

So popping back and forth between two infinite planes with a ‘gateway’ that has no end points is extremely difficult. You could end up anywhere in the Abyss or on Anuropia or worse…

Well, I don’t disagree other than to say that for what demons do and don’t do to other demons, it various from demon to demon.

At the lower ranks though, there does tend to be a lot of camaraderie and shared misery, accursed masters are a pain, no point in adding to it.

The big guys, well it’s all about them. They treat lesser demons much like nobles treat peasants…not worth the time to mess with unless they cause problems or can be useful for some scheme.

As for gods and good vs evil…it’s all very relative. Again, I think these are just marketing terms coupled with various levels of narcissism.

Yes, I don’t disagree, you do have to remember that demons were all people at one point, they have been tortured and live in a hell hole, but really it’s not any different than living in NYC.

Demons live in the city and trade there because it is convenient for them. One can say what one will, but the vast majority of demons recognize that having the city is in their own best interests on a lot of levels. And yes, there are those who will try to cheat and not play by the rules, and for that, there is the Fear that I talk of.

When I say fear, I don’t mean fear like Kim Jung-* I mean obey the rules or there will be consequences fear. The leadership is, by and large rather laisez-faire but if you screw up the good thing others have going, you will be punished. Severely.

That being said, a rapscallion can get by with quite a bit, but eventually someone will notice and either take them out, or report them on up the scale. The parallels to western frontier town and in fact all human towns where there isn’t a centralized or responsive government are there. It’s not any different that.

Perhaps the example would be pirate towns in the Caribbean. There is some honor among thieves and demons, or things just don’t work.

Also elevator breakdowns aren’t that big of a deal since most demons have wings. Those that don’t usually get garden apartments…

A lot of the buildings don’t have working elevators in fact.

As for garbage…well we don’t eat, urinate, vomit or poop except for pleasure so on that front it’s better than NYC. And there are plenty of people around to incinerate trash.

Not surprisingly there are no bans on open fires or incinerators in the city.
Also where did you get this hero-stealing-other-people-stuff-and-be-forgiven from. I never encountered such in the books I read.
Victori spolia as they used to say in my day (or some of my days)

To the Victor Go the Spoils. And the victor always writes history and so is always the hero.

And so, as they said in some of my other days: ὅπερ ἔδει δεῖξαι

    Also a more concrete example.

See: Every Disney Fantasy Movie Ever.

Hero rescues princess and then forces her to marry him so he can have her father’s kingdom.

The guy steals the crown and the kingdom!

    Talk about chutzpah!

WELL…now that you bring it up.

I think you meant Exador hardly ages…but…actually he does. This was touched upon late in book 1 and is talked about more in book 2, he actually continuously shape shifts to age himself. And he does the “never in the same room at the same time trick” to have both father and son interact with people. Now…the real question that we don’t know the answer to is…who is Mrs. Exador and what’s her story?

The vast majority of demons can not shape shift. Not all Greater Demons can shape shift. I would argue that at best, half of them can.

As to Bess? Well in book ii you’ll know more. But yes, she changes her appearance frequently. She wasn’t looking like a cat on the carpet during the climax. Sipping tea from a china tea cup is tricky for a cat on a carpet. Lap, yes, drink, no.

And as to the limits, I point you back to what Rupert told Tom. The more different the form is from what you are used to or your true form/self image, the harder it is to maintain.

I am not sure I am qualified to comment on this…but I can testify as to TWO insane individuals.

If you have to debate insanity, then I suspect you are trying to self-diagnose.

I personally find most everyone to be insane in their own way, demon or human. Again, I only know of one person who is 100% certifiably sane. It’s also the only person whose secrets and motivations I have even a remote glimpse of.

OK, seeing two more open topics…at least one of which has a lot of discussion…will get those tomorrow for reasons listed earlier and because I am being distracted by this Estrebius fellow who’s a friend of Boggy’s and has some crazy proposal from his accursed master for Tom…talk about cheeky…

Also that stupid incubus is playing with his toy again…need to tell him it’s not polite…I don’t trust him one bit…you shouldn’t either…

    This cave sucks…

Basically, I’d agree, but we’ll see a lot more of this in the Heavenly Horde or whatever it’s called. Host, Horde, tomatO, tomAHto

I do have to take exception to the powerful demons ignore lesser demons part of your argument.

If you think that’s true, then I’m going to have you go explain that to some demon princes I know….they apparently haven’t been playing by your rules, so if you could stop by one of their palaces and set them straight, I’d be much obliged.

There are definitely some planes that run that way…Fae planes often do…

However, as far as I can tell (watches aren’t that common in either Astlan or The Abyss) time seems roughly the same. Astlan has a 20 hour day, and The Abyss just has a never ending Day. So it’s a bit tricky to know for sure. The fake days in the Courts are something like 20 hours, 8 hours of light, 8 hours of dark, 2 sets of 2 hour dusk/dawn periods. I say hours, but that’s just proportionality of time.
