Is Tommus getting a much more real-time connection with Orcus/his past self in this battle? First we see the scenes with Beragamos and then he is using all kinds of fancy magic on the field that he seems to just ‘know’ how to do without any learning/figuring out. Old muscle-memory coming back?
Wouldn’t mind another POV on the meteor-batting thing. Maybe from Hilda’s or Teragdor’s perspective?
GiwdulMemberWe know from HH that Tom can do weather control outside of Mt. Doom. Wouldn’t the Doomalogues have built-in weather controls?
GiwdulMember
When did he weather control outside of the abyss?
Not outside of the abyss, in it.What I meant is that Tom can do weather control, in the area surrounding Mt. Doom, in the abyss. So, it naturally follows that the Doomalogues should be able to do some level of weather control as well.
GiwdulMemberSplit charging huh? That makes sense. I figured there was a reason for the delay, just didn’t know what it was.
I am guessing we won’t see those Doomalogues coming online until Book 4 right?
Actually, that’s another problem to consider. From Beta 1, and common sense, we know that the D’Orcs can choose to return to the Abyss and Mount Doom because they are anchored there. So shouldn’t the D’Orcs at all the 666 Dooms have returned, unless they had a reason to stay there?
I did wonder about all those other D’Orcs at one point but I figured that there was some kind of general fallback to Mt. Doom at some point early on and they just all stayed there. Now that you mention it, I am interested to know how that worked out exactly.GiwdulMemberThe Doomalogue of Nysegard(DON) came on at DOA+5.
We are now at DOA+18 and haven’t heard a peep about the next one getting ready to come online. The DON started charging right after the battle. Shouldn’t the next one have then started coming up? Even if there was a delay of a few days for the pools to recharge after booting up the DON shouldn’t the next one be powering up by now?GiwdulMemberHe (Ruiden) also has un-foolable(?) demon detection abilities.
He also appears to be really good at reading auras and such to detect and identify saints, archons and djinn.GiwdulMemberFound the spot in HH where this was mentioned:
“Which is why this cannot be Orcus reborn!” Sentir stated vehemently. “I saw him die— I saw his entire being engulfed by that negative energy, watched it follow his links to the D’Orcs in Etterdam, watched it devour them as well. As, for that matter, did you!
This pretty clearly indicates that EM took out Orcus and ALL the D’Orcs.GiwdulMemberIf the dome only cut extra-planar links then all of the shamans and warlocks that were physically on Etterdam could still have been affected.
GiwdulMemberWondering something: what if Beragamos needed to do something that couldn’t be done with the new mortal body that he had made for himself? Would he vaporize it and make another when he needed to or, would he just walk it into his walk-in freezer-closet and hang it up on a couple meat hooks until he was read to go back in it?
GiwdulMemberDoes this mean that Tizzy got someone who owed him a favor to ‘incarnate’ him and then say they had shoved him in some cenobite trap for a few decades while he is actually off living as a mortal?
GiwdulMemberIf I recall correctly, Sentir was saying that ‘Orcus’ clearly knows what we did and is moving for revenge and then Aodh says “not possible, he and all the D’Orcs were all dead when I opened the portal for the unlife armies”.
GiwdulMember
“Because he knows.” Lilith said, sounding angry.
Sentir closed his eyes, even as Aodh locked his on her stating emphatically. “There is no way he could know. The Dark Apostle blocked off access to Doom for Orcus and his army. You cut the link to the Nysegard Doom, so they could neither use mana, nor return upon death.”
Aodh shook his head and continued. “Sentir slew Orcus permanently and infected the D’Orcs with the Blackness before I even opened the gateway to Nysegard outside the Dark Apostle’s wards. No one, other than our own servants were left alive.
This indicates that EM was somehow able to soul-suck the D’Orcs through their links to Orcus. I think that this also came up in HH but I am not sure exactly what was said.
The above extract doesn’t say whether ‘the blackness’ actually killed the D’Orcs or just weakened them a lot.GiwdulMemberHmm… I guess the problem is that I didn’t correctly take into account the fact that as a reader I know a bunch of stuff that team Doom doesn’t.
After re-reading the chapter I realize that they literally have almost zero reliable intel on what is going down at the COL (we know because we got to read about it)(same for the five sibs). All they really have is some hear-say from a talking rock. In light of this, I suppose an abundance of caution is called for.Speaking of who knows what, could someone on team Doom deducted the presence of Storm Lords in the Etterdam battle? With that vision and the deconstruction/deduction done by phastus and volund along with the knowledge that there are avatars trapped in the COL. That leaves only Storm Lords who could have put up those wards which means: they were in nysegard.
GiwdulMemberI have been wondering about something: would it be possible to re-demonize a demon?
Take a low level demon like Antefalken and send him out on the astral plain and then re-bind him to the abyss via a D’Orcing or similar ritual? Thus boosting him all the way up to fourth order or higher?Or maybe there is a super-secret, never been seen before, ‘demon boosting’ ritual? If the original demon body is created with magic and that body can, slowly, grow stronger. Would it be possible to somehow speed that process up in a big way?
Demon steroids?
GiwdulMemberFirst thing I did with Alpha 3 was to use the ‘compare to another ebook’ feature in Calibre so that I could pick out and read all the changes since Alpha 2.
Generates a bunch of near-false positives but I can still page through and get all the updates pretty quick.
