Oh, yeah, could you use Amazon Mechanical Turk to do some A/B testing for your sales materials?
I suppose one could do that. Not sure how one would frame it, but I’ll google to see if other people have done such things and how they do it.

that’s why I used what seemed like

    how about:

Melissance stared at him in stunned surprise for a very long minute before finally throwing her hair back,

    Excellent counterpoint!

    Good points.

They are, frankly, rather besotted by her and her husband. They (the humans, not Samwell) are blinded and beguiled by the charisma of the two.

I think the rationale for Oorstemoth does need more work. Need to come up with and have it discussed. Think Samwell querying Dante or Heron is the mechanism.

The loose end part is a bit of a problem because their story needs Talarius to be available and he’s been busy.

This is part of my old dilemma about the time it takes to setup the siege and what everyone else was doing in the mean time.

    Ack!

Yeah I moved that around a bit, I think the first time I wrote it on the wrong day or something…

    Not seeing it in 141.

There is a fourth period demon suite scene where he talks with Reggie, Reggie is busy with some D’Orcettes so Talarius goes to his room to wait for Reggie.

Then in 142 he goes to the demon suite to find Boggy, Tizzy and Estrebrius

    How about:

What it was, Tom reflected anxiously, was a level at which decisions he and his allies and opponents made could bend the course of destiny of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of beings.

He is a “half demon” or so he believes.

If he is Dis Pater, he’s also phoenixed.

What Phaestus does not say in this book is that Orcus’ son “just appeared” after Orcus Phoenix Cycled a previous time (probably the last time)

I could make that clearer by saying at that if it makes things more intriguing.

They actually are related, but it’s not as simple as Rupert believes. As we know from Reggie, the demon that fathered Rupert does not have to be the actual father. Not saying that the demon was an incubus, but it could have been.
If Rupert has a built-in directive for becoming a wizard and summoning Orcus, it does change my view of the Orcus character.
For better or worse?
What if Orcus accidentally messed up once during a Pheonix Cycle and split into 2 beings, Orcus and Dis Pater. That would explain why they look identical their demon forms.
I have a lot of trouble writing short stories…

So the question is; is this suggested blurb, with possible variations, better than the current one?

in reply to: Book 1 Blurb #7764

    Yeah, apparently not.

I note that Scott Adams (Dilbert author) was very adamant throughout the election that Trump was the master of a/b testing. He’d toss stuff out to see what worked, if people responded he followed that path, if they did not, he dropped the issue/meme.

That will make for a interesting foreign policy. I get the sense that various world leaders don’t appreciate the President of the US a/b testing them on things like invading countries, leaving NATO, using nukes, allying with Putin.

The big problem I have is that for presales, I have to lock the final version down about 2 or 3 weeks in advance and can’t change it until after it’s released.

So, I’m not in a emergency rush to decide, but I want people thinking about it and percolating on it so we come up with the best one.

in reply to: Volume IV Title #7796

Or wait, do you mean fix the title right before Book IV goes live?

I like to give the name of the next book at the end of the preceding book, it gives people something to look forward to. It is not that critical. I’ve done that in the last two.

One thing I am concerned about with a lot of the titles I’d like to use is that I might over use the “of Doom” part

in reply to: Beta – Some Things and opinions #7117

I’m thinking that the cloak thing would take quite a bit of backstory to explain how he got it.

I was more thinking in terms of Tom referencing him as a backup/escape route if something happened to the Doomalogue.

My other thought is that the eventual meet up will be better if Vaselle is unprepared. If he was at the meeting in disguise he would know that Teragdor is there and either avoid him, or have a story ready to go when he returned.

So my thought is that the shock of the two of them meeting unexpectedly would be better. And once Teragdor knows that Tom/Edwyrd are one then he’ll think of Zed, the cloud and Gastrope’ and all of this will come at about the same time that Jenn is uncovering the same information.
