IumeMember
Scott V Duff and his Twice Dead God series. I couldn’t get past Chapter 1.
IumeMemberGilán is one of the characters in the series. I figured it was Scott V. Duff being mentioned so I checked the Amazon preview of one of his books and there was Gilán.
IumeMemberI don’t if this has been speculated upon yet, but what if Tizzy does have the ability shapechange and is secretly Rupert’s father? Tizzy arranged for the prophecy and needed to setup the events in question, so it is likely he is involved with Rupert’s birth in some manner.
IumeMemberI thought the Concordenax theory was shot down at some point? Also, what if Tizzy is the Concordenax’s brother, former peer, or something? Imagine Tizzy (Tizzy of all people!) turning into the apparently gorgeous demon prince that seduced Rupert’s mom. That’d be a mind blow.
IumeMemberIf the Abyss is infinite in size what guarantees (other than TAG’s decision) would result in the Inferno coming out even remotely close to Mount Doom. I’m just imagining the fun it would be if the Inferno popped out right over the Courts of Chaos. Suddenly assaulted by multiple demon princes. Oh what trouble it’ll be.
IumeMemberThe things you catch when you re-read again: “He had read stories of demons peeling the flesh from their victims, rubbing salt on the muscle tissue and then replacing the skin and massaging them. Talarius shuddered. Only the foulest of dark fiends would even think of such things.”
I forgot this was something Lenamare was willing to do and Exador loved to do it. Nice callback.
I so want to put Lenamare & Talarius in the same room just to see the blood fly.
IumeMemberMan, everything you’re saying is just having me jonseying for book 3. As a drug and vice dealing demon can ya hook me up with some Tizzy? I’ve got Please Don’t Tell My Parents I’ve Got Henchmen in February, Marked in Flesh in March, and a weekly dosage of Innkeeper Chronicles, but nothing after that. I’m getting withdrawals here.
IumeMember
What only one book per month… How are you surviving?
XCOM, with the Long War mod. If you are fan of turn-based strategy then XCOM is a good choice — XCOM2 is coming next week! Long War, well makes the game longer and a LOT harder. It took me 1 year to beat it which I just completed. Sucks up a lot of time.
I do have a Kindle Unlimited account, but not a lot of good books out there. It is just that right now is a bit of a dry spell. I had a glut of books in the Oct-Dec range (Daniel Black Book 3, various superhero books). I also just complete a week-long re-read of Terry Mancour’s Spellmonger series. That helped, but now I’m want the latest book AGAIN! Re-reads are a large portion of my selection.
I was also lucky, I got selected to read & review an ARC of Please Don’t Tell My Parents I Have Henchmen in exchange for a review. Read that yesterday, going to work on the review today.
FYI, if anyone remembers ElfQuest you can sit down and read through it at elfquest.com. That’ll take a few days since it takes a few seconds to load each page (graphic novel) and the story is amazing.
IumeMemberI ruminating over book 2 and thinking what makes a god a god and a demon a demon, and I got to wondering about Concordenax. Did Concordenax bug out, become a god and secretly worms its way into the Etonian hierarchy. What if Tiernon was Concordenax?
Talarius would flip.
IumeMemberEh, demons can shapeshift and since the base forms seem to be set when the energy pattern of the demon is formed I’d suspect that a god’s form is set by the godly energy and shaped by the perception of the faithful. Concordenax could shapreshift, set itself up as a god, collect the godly energies and recast his energy’s stable pattern into a new form. Ta da! New god.
Who knows, maybe Tom will become more Orc-ish.
IumeMemberThere are apparently volcanoes in Oostermoth. Also, there are some south of Zilquar’s school and a LOT in southern Etonia.
I’m really hoping for Oostermoth. Yes, it will make getting to the volcano a bit hard, but it’ll be so much fun.
IumeMemberEh, they’ll just argue that Tommus abandoned his property. Of course, an army of D’Orcs is also a strong argument against.
IumeMemberWill we ever have a Klendathu drop-type moment in the fight of FOE vs. FOG? Glorious D’Orcs dropping from the skies to smash into and secure a battlefront against overwhelming numbers of FOG. Just imagine the fight.
Also, why does FOE always seem to have more forces than FOG? Is it just FOG propaganda that they fought against overwhelming numbers rather than being sneaks who refuse to engage in true combat? [-(
IumeMember
Hi,
There is a lot of interesting stuff going on, but including it gets distracting to a lot of people (see too many POV/storylines) I am debating on how to spin off other shorter “sideline” series (E.g. The Seas of Astlan for the Captain Asmeth story cut from book ii). Who knows some of it may not get told until after the fact.
I remember arguing about this in the beta read. Are you considering short stories to supplement the things that happen during the main story?
If so, here are some things (pre, during, and post) I’d pay to read about:
– The final days of Orcus
– The theft of the book
– Side adventures of characters we’ve met (Asmeth, Jenn, Gastrope)
– A POV story from one the D’Orcs
– Orcs in spaaaaaaaaaaace dealing with the rise of Tommus
– An anilord story—
You know, by the title “Heaven’s Host” if I had not read the beta I’d have expected the book to be about Hilda with Tom as the side character and it was that way in the first half of the book. Then it switched to Tom with Hilda as a side character.
IumeMemberI never thought of these during the beta read, but now that I’ve had weeks upon weeks to let everything settle and be stirred by other thoughts I had some very interesting to wonder about.
#1 – New Eton is governed by 5 powers — the crown and the 4 main gods. Presumably the emperor has enough political power to be separate from the church of Torean. So, what exactly is going back home after Tom’s little adventurer? None of the other gods or their servants are getting involved?
#2 – What are the creation myths of Astlan given that you can talk to gods and ask? What is the Church of Tiernon’s version? All we’ve got is Aetherus created the multiverse — the end. Where does the Abyss fit in this? Is Aetherus’s creation more like Judeo-Christian (god & world are separate) or more like Greek/Egpytian/Norse mythology (world is part of the body of a primordial being which may or may not still be alive). What is the Council’s opinion on the matter?
#3 – Civilization seems to be slowly developing. Much slower than Earth. I suppose the occasional godly scuffle can set mortal progress back quite a bit, but are there any deliberate attempts by higher powers to prevent a technological civilization from rising? Book 2 seems to indicate that Astlan is for whatever reason rather static.
