Actually, thinking about it, he might even give Tizzy a fair trial.

I wouldn’t read too much into Tom’s alternate human form. He didn’t put much thought into it.

His thinking was: “I want to appear human, like him, to show him that demons aren’t that different from humans; but I don’t want anyone to recognize Edwyrd.”

So he rather on the fly created a generic human form, that was similar to Edwyrd, but with some differences so he wouldn’t be recognized. He was filled with god mana and had resources to burn in the heat of battle.

I very much doubt if he could recreate that form again, since he really didn’t memorize it.

Now, all that being said, the ability to create an adhoc form and hold it for any length of time without it shifting or melting or turning red and horny is an impressive thing. However, he didn’t have to hold it that long, and only talarius had a close up view, and might not have been paying attention if things like eye color/shape of nose were sort of fluid from moment to moment.

The real trick (as will be discussed more in book 3) is consistency and detail. It’s much easier if you can fudge the details of the form from use to use.

However, people who know you well will eventually notice.

Sort of like a mole on the king’s face moving around.

Yes, he held it, he was hunched over, so not sure if anyone would have noticed moles moving around his face with all scrunched up.

But you are correct, he did, he kept it together.

And, yes, book 3 will be dealing with various forms and clothing/wardrobe quite explicitly.

No luck necessary. You are in. 🙂

in reply to: The history between the Grove and Ennead Gods #5471

    That’s a pretty good synopsis.

I will impart a few “clarifications” however. Pardon me, if I accidentally reveal information that is in Book 3…the dividing line of 2/3 was a bit fuzzy and moved around.

Most everything here, I have said somewhere before (albeit most likely in the beta for book 2) So beware of accidental spoilers. Consider the following as sort of pre-beta info. It’s not so much plot as clarifying underlying issues.
Technically, the Nyjyr Ennead are on Uropia, the closer of the two moons. They purposefully shutdown their outer planes to save energy. They have only been in the Abyss for the last 150 years (when Tizzy showed up with cookies). This is one of their multiple plans to regain power. (Reggie is another) She is posing as a demon to get her hands on “The book” and playing Exador and Ramses off each other. Of course, each of them is doing the same as well. Not a trustworthy lot.

Yes, there is quite a bit of crossover between the Gods of the Grove and the Nyjyr Ennead. However, that’s not necessarily the same as the Ennaad and the denizens of the grove.

The Grove is a safe haven for people/races persecuted on other planes; think of it as sort of an underground railroad to other planes. Yes, when the other worlds the Grove rescued people were cut off (Earth) is somewhat coincident to Ragnarok, but not that simple.
Ragnarok essentially precipitated the eventual disconnection, by locking most of the Northern European deities out of Earth This gave the Demi-Urge a big opening.

The closure came because the Demi-Urge was in the process of slaughtering non-humans on Earth and hoovering up all the mana. They got out who they could, and eventually it was just too much work to keep doorways open. So for example, Merlin and Arthur were some of the last to escape.

It wasn’t just the snakes leaving Ireland.
They have representatives of multiple races, not all of whom always get along: Case in point the Los Alfar and the Modgriensofarthgonosefren who are, technically jotunkind. So when the FOG decides that other jotunkind are evil, the Modgriensofarthgonosefren get uneasy, and one cannot assume their loyalty.

In particular, a battle between Orcs and Elves is dicey for them and their own internal stability. While not allies of the Orcs, they are not enemies per se either. So, if the alfar start arming for war against orcs, without true provocation, the dwarves will not be happy and likely escalate. This is was Trevin is concerned about; a war between elves and dwarves would be very very bad, considering both races crew their cloudships and defenses.

    Yes, the grove predates Ragnarok.

Ragnarok was big on multiple planes, far beyond even the localverse, given that Earth was involved. In the appendices/library when it talks about war between pantheons, that’s probably what the author was talking about.

Ragnarok lasted for very very long time. Around a thousand years or so, depending on which battles you include. It manifested itself in many ways on different planes. There were, to say the least, a buttload of battlefields in the war. As we will see, the “Desolation” of Ferundy and Cal Crestor is tied to it; and this was a huge war between orcs and elves.

For some odd reason, since the move to a new cloud, the Avatar images are all broken—except for Tizzy’s which is suspicious, but then he is immortal.

When I look at my own link in edit profile; the link works to bring up the image, but it’s not getting displayed.

I am looking into this, but if you have your avatar handy it might be faster to just reupload it.

This is very odd because I did not move the site so much as picked up the VM and moved it over to my own cloud from Azure.

Apparently, that made Bill Gates mad and he struck down the Avatars.

Yes, something is quite fishy. I will look into it, probably this weekend. On a writing roll at moment and don’t want to break my stride.

Hmm, very good question and very similar to one that Tom and Tamarin are asking in Book 3.

    Cool!

I am cranking away as I can, but got hammered last month with my day job, and it’s still rather bad. I really want to start beta by end of month to be on target for a release 11-12 months after volume ii. But it’s getting difficult. Good news is I have all the events for the book locked down, just got to fully write them down.

There you go…talking about your hard work life. o:)

Really thinking Bernie Sanders should have talked less about Northern European/Scandinavian style healthcare, tuition, etc. and focused on insane amounts of paid vacation!

That would have got him a lot more votes than simply trying to guarantee healthcare as a right. After all, what’s the point of being healthy if you spend all your days in drudgery and never have time to enjoy your life?

Now these guys are seriously wacked.

10-15 years ago they would come by this Methodist church about half a block from my home, to protest the local church’s decision to do gay marriages, it also had a gay minister and the local church was battling the national church to do/have the right to do this, which was in some national news, hence they found out.

They’ve come by periodically since then (when they were there for several weeks) both to the church and other local events. Usually around nearby at least once a year. Chicago is about a nine hour drive from Topeka, so it’s an easy van ride for batches of them to invade. As their fame has increased, they’ve had to tour more widely, so they don’t get by as much as they used to.

I’ve actually seen Phelps himself during their stakeouts of the local church in the early 00’s.

Numerous members (most all are family members) have broken free. There is one, a son, that wrote a book on their cult.

They must have one serious kool-aid budget.

I got swamped in April and, unfortunately only got some editing and a couple pages done.

I know where the end of the book is and all the scenes to get there are in my head and spreadsheet…just gotta get it down in Word.

Hoping for end of May/Early June. That sort of puts Beta at exactly 1 full year. I would like to get 3 out early than book 2 but not sure if that will be possible.

in reply to: Countdown Beta? #5207

And that’s “I know where the end of the volume is.” not “the end of the book” since the book is “Demons of Astlan” printed across multiple volumes.

    Someone’s been paying attention…

    =d>

in reply to: Countdown Beta? #5175

Yes, I have that in my sights.

Not book 3, it’s more of a side-story, but I’ve got that covered.
