Still some really weird spacing problems. I “think” this is due to there being multiple commands for the same smiey. And duplicates don’t show up in box?

Ooh, that would be fun. They are sea adjacent.

The Kraken could make a big splash and wash all the undead out to sea!

Oooh I like this idea. Was not where I was going but…Kraken starts waking back up. Citadel under siege…kill two birds with one stone!

    =d>

I mean if you’ve got a weapon like that why not use it? First Strike and all!

in reply to: Orcus, son of Eris? #6420

Jus some bored wikipedia reading, but…
    – Horkos = son of Eris. Horkos punished broken oaths and perjury.
    – Orcus = does the same and has a similar name.
    – Eris, step mother to the Five Siblings

    So… Orcus is a half brother to Tiernon and a step-nephew to Hephaestus? #-o ](*,) ](*,)
Need to dig a little bit further at Wikipedia. Orcus is the roman god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths. Later he was often confused with Dis Pater.

If you follow the mythology north, you have the orcnae (various spellings) that Tolkien used for orcs and it all ties out rather interestingly. Therefore you go to “orc” in Wikipedia to look of the old english versions.

Eris, aka Discordia the sower of Discord, talk about an evil step mother. Depending on which greek tradition you choose, Hephaestus is either the son of Zeus and Hera, or Hera alone (asexual birth as revenge for Zeus’ single parenting of Athena)

There are two Eris (supposedly) One daughter of Nyx (night) asexually the other of Zeus and Hera. They each represent different types of Discord/Strife.

So Hephaestus and Eris are either half siblings (if Hera birthed him asexually), not siblings (if from Nyx) or full siblings (both from Z&H)

So Orcus would be somewhere between loose family to full nephew of Hephaestus and step-brother of Tiernon.

You probably should have put spoiler around that.

So one might see the Greek tragedy in:

Step brothers (and sisters) conspire to lock their mother/step mother–father/step father in Tartarus and later, several years later, in an effort to keep the peace between his step brother and another god and keep a world from being destroys, accidentally has his step brother, the warden of Tartarus killed by one of his servants.
I need to come back to digest all of this–to many other fires today to do it justice.

however–Jenn should not have been in any group where Tizzy said Rupert was Tom’s son.

That would have given Jenn the idea that Rupert was a half demon. That would be a bad thing for much of my logic, in book 1,2,3 ack ack ack

OK, you are verified. If you want to be in the Beta the link is in the shoutbox at the top of the forums.

That herbivorous point is very interesting. Very unusual adaptive behavior.

Very interesting that there are not a lot of large predators given that the wildlife seems pretty dang tough. Maybe the Roos disemboweled all the large predators? 🙂 Obviously, that would be known to paleontologists.

If I saw a body building Roo, I would definitely run inside!

Tizzy, of course, would try to box with it.

Hmm, that could be interesting to watch.

Particularly if the Roo has to hop up in the air to punch a flying demon.

    Very funny, Pale Ontologist

You know you do not meet many people at parties claiming to be either an ontologist nor any metaphysicists.

Uhm, you haven’t somehow got a copy of my other new book, Chronicles of Astlan: Into the Wilds? Have you? Not sure how you would know about that plot point otherwise.

    Melted Castle: Late Fourth Period

Me, I get bit by a hasty vampire and….. – is this different from a slow and deliberate vampire 8-[

Do they come in different speeds….or have a Turbo button like the first generation PCs…..
can’t easily quote both you and lume so…

Vampires typically either kill you or turn you. The more blood they drink without killing you or turning you, the more likely you are to be infected with ghoulism.

A short snack, once, you probably won’t go ghoul, but once you get to around half way to death, good chance that you’ll be ghoulash.

And, yes, vampires do come in two speeds.

    vampires and vampyrs.

Vampires are your typical Dracula/Buffy types. vampyrs are more like the Fright Night type, with a giant mouth full of teeth, like a piranha.
Vampyrs are generally not in control of themselves/aren’t that bright until (if) they survive for a very very long time.

Vampires consider vampyrs to be a lesser form of vampire, “crude, uncivilized, ravening beasts”

    Baysir Tomgren, Prophet or Saint?

I’m assuming Saint, because Teragdor is the first Prophet in centuries? Or was he a Prophet before becoming an Saint?

Edit: Ahh was confusing Prophet with Apostle…
Was just re-reading this.

That confusion confused me because originally I did you the title prophet for Teragdor; but then realized that would get confusing and apostle worked better with the title.

So when I first re-read this, I panicked thinking I’d left that in some place.

So, I liked the new Tiernon.
I especially liked the motivation of the Alvar Gods.
I had previously left the Alvar gods more opaque, because seeing all sides means you have fewer enemies. But I finally decided that we need to see what they are doing to see why they are so implacable and dead set against the return of Orcus because otherwise, the elves going all “hurry up and attacK’ is so out of tradition for beings that live thousands of years.

You know somewhere I wrote up the mating habits of unicorns, which is pretty weird. Have I posted that anywhere I wonder? Just remembering this. Wondering where it is?
Remember Samwell (or another Demon?) musing about them in the Alpha.

    Yes, that was it! Thanks!

in reply to: Alpha 2 Released #6384

    Hi,

    I have released alpha 2

So we have the big pile of spelling mistakes, and various issues that were missed in Alpha2.

Reworking of stuff as discussed in the Alpha 1 topics and a fair amount of new content moving stuff forward to the end.

in reply to: Alpha 2 Released #6386

The Grove add ins are really setup for next book, plus…if I can wrangle it in the last part of Talarius growth.

Book 2 was 272,000 words, book 1 around 250,000. I figure I have 40K to 50K words for Nysegard and another 20K for other stuff that beta readers need adding.

I am thinking that about 280K is the most I can possibly squeeze into a trade paperback. So goal is 250K to 280K

Last time, I ended up shoving a fair amount into Book 3; in particular the demon swearing in/aftermath of fight. If need be I’ll do it again.

Talarius needs, by the end, to be “mostly” on Tom’s side in my mind. At least with no more reservations than Gastrope’ and Damien who are not 100% on board.

I will certainly accept arguments to the contrary. But the argument being is that one way or the other, he is an Apostle of Doom.
