    On a side note.

How interested are people in the Orcs and D’Orcs?

One reason is that I am motivated by one of the shaman, who doesn’t attend the party due to work.

Leftenant Trig Bioblast, Second Shaman of the OCSS Skull Crusher (Oak Clan Star Ship) in the Antilles Cluster. Shamans in this universe do much of what you’d expect, but what they are critical for is what other SF books call “subspace communication” e.g. FTL communication between ships and bases. In some ways not unlike the “stones” used in Stargate Universe etc.

This would be a different series, tangentially tied to the first story line.

Basically a further exploration of Orcs in space vs other fantasy races (plus humans) in space.

Major enemies would include Elves obviously, but also a race yet to be named that look rather cthulhu inspired. I would expect dwarves, dragons and others to be involved at various points.

Anyway, just something that’s been itching at me as a story…

Is it a bit WH40K? Probably, but, I have never played, read or owned any WH40K, just seen the artwork. So it should be quite different.

    Hi

To encourage more people to give feedback without requiring lots of writing, here are some polls. Feel free to add commentary.

    Thanks!

Yes. I have been making notes on what people have been saying and trying to come up with a game plan.

I just haven’t posted anything yet because I’ve been awaiting more for more people to finish and have input.

in reply to: Format Requests #3957

Actually, you might want to try just the PDF format.

Apple is/has always been good with PDF support. Otherwise, a kindle format should work…all though again the Calibre ones are a bit weird.

If the text is weird/hard to read let me know and I’ll plan around with Calibre and a kindle format.

    OK,

I actually think the epub works best on the iphone 6 with “Books” the apple bookstore app.

I copied the file over from my pc using FileBrowser or any other app that browses drives, but you could most like email it to yourself.

By default the iphone won’t know how to open it much, but for me, when I clicked open, it gave me a list of apps and I chose the Books app.

That worked pretty good, about like normal…I think, in that while I’ve used kindle on my iphone 6, I’ve only used “Books” on my ipad. But the pages were readable and decent.

Yes, he’ll need it later, but some practice might be useful….

86 is a lot of demons…I may take a look at that.

    in reply to: 91.1/91.2 #4150

    Hmmm…

Excellent consistency point. It seems like when people are in Universal, you should probably just get elves since that’s how Tom would hear it…

Of course, not sure what the D’Orcs would hear…”Traitorous, S*#t Eating, sons of whores.” or something similar.

The Grove stuff, that can be Alvar etc. since that’s ‘Trade’ or Turelanese or who knows what…never really said.

The Council and everyone around there speaks Common or Trade. Presumably the Grove might speak something different. Turelane would mainly speak Trade as well. Although I am sure there are many that may speak in Turelanese.

No one speaks Abancian any more. So sad. Evil Exador.

The info dump was due mostly to what I feared were content length constraints.

Actually, the Nimbus only travels at 660 miles per day (on average—sometimes faster, sometimes slower, sometimes the wrong direction as it has to move with the wind mostly or fight them).

11 leagues per hour, 20 hours per day, 220 leagues per day, 660 mpd.

Does this contradict number I mentioned earlier in the book?

Carpets can go faster, typically. Particularly Fighter Carpets like onboard the Nimbus.

The Nimbus is definitely a warship and there will be battles where Gastrope’ and Jenn will be working as combat gunners on carpets…or so is the plan.

Some of this is setup, so it doesn’t come out of the blue later.

If I am throwing out the length limit, which I sort of think I am. Then I could greatly expand/flesh out some of this. Would that help? Or is cutting still better?

in reply to: The Grove side plot/story – Jenn & Gastropé #4183

And by cutting, I mean trimming, not eliminating.

No biggie, you have no idea how much time I spent pouring over ship speeds and cloud speeds and distances on the maps. Then add in 20 hours per day and how are Astlan hours related to Earth hours/days? It is not by any means exact.

Fortunately, the map is done in Campaign Cartographer (originally in a very old version, hence the OLD graphics vs their newer stuff) which calculates distances and lets you drop grids and hexagons of whatever scale.

Yeah, that’s what I am thinking. And/or, I can work to unbore them. But breaking up long descriptions is good.

I know some authors (not usually SF/Fantasy, but “literary”) spend pages on describing every damn detail, but I’ve never really enjoyed that sort of story.

in reply to: Early Action: Escape from Oorstemoth? #4194

This would be more action and new scenes…moving away from this idea though.

in reply to: Fixing Bigger Issues #3999

Excellent details…exactly what I need, thanks! I love your plotline by plotline rundown! I like your analysis too!

The introspection, that is the big question I have. I personally like his introspective moments, but I know or hear from others they don’t like it that he seems too self absorbed.

So this is a good question? What do people think on Tom’s inner dialogue/introspection. There is less here than the first book.

Would more “deep internal” with other characters help flesh them out, or does it detract from Tom as the main protagonist.

in reply to: Possible Major Changes #4068

    That’s what I’ve been thinking of…

more conflicts for Tom…but not clear what that would be yet…the tour, might be useful.

I have one thought, but not sure about it, because it means introducing another sort of demon, and I’m already doing Incubus/Succubus/D’Orc/D’Warg as is…

in reply to: The Grove side plot/story – Jenn & Gastropé #4172

    Hmm,

That last one is a very good point that I completely missed.

To be honest, Tom (in my mind) magically knew that things were clearing up at Freehold because I did. That’s not correct. He has no idea about them.

However, to be fair to him, they were pretty safe with Damien and the Council. Particularly once the demons were tossed out.

Still, I think it’s a critical point that he is at least seen to worry about this.

Also, Jenn should probably be more worried/obsessed with Rupert and his weird cousin out hunting down demons….

Really, really should have thought of that
