I need to reread, but I think he was fantasizing about doing that, imagining it, he didn’t actually do it, but I will go verify.

Yes, you are right in that he did follow the link back to her, even as Tom started to do.

However, that was a dream walking. Although that might not be clear, he invaded her dreams, but this is what incubuses do. They are very good at astral travel and can follow links to the planes of men in order to invade dreams.

So he was following her link and he got into her dreams. She had basically taught him to do this while he was in Astlan, so he now did ti from the Abyss, this turned out to be a good test. If she had an antagonistic relationship with him, she could certainly have put protections on her binding so he couldn’t do this, but given that she wanted him to practice following such things, she did not.

Tom could certainly follow Lenamare’s link if he wanted and probably see where he was, but Tom has no real training in dream walking, plus Lenamare’s bindings are going to be a lot more protective of such things than hers.

So this one, if you click on it to enlarge it shows you what holding the actual physical book would look like.

I show a version of “white” and the “gold” to get an idea, both are edged rather than flat “white” Flat white might be better….not sure though.

I can also play with shadows behind the text, so I have letter shaped blackness, I can do that from any angle. That can alleviate this issue. Will post some different variations along the way.

Edit: Why is the sun casting blue light?
It’s not, this is actually supposed to be evening/night, the light should mostly be from the volcano which is why it’s orange.

Click on, blow up, the second posted image, that’s the full book laid out flat.

The red lines aren’t really there, they just show you front and back cover demarcations.

Also there are lava flows below them that are glowing that’s where the front lighting is coming from.

    Great perspective!

Actually, take a look at the new appendices in terms of the multiverse. There were, in theory, multiple Tom’s but presumably they get collapsed somehow when going to the Abyss. We don’t really know for sure, but there are conjectures in the new appendices on how to deal with the many to one relationship of the Abyss and the infinite worlds of maybe. Lots of paradox issues can arise.

I have sworn off time travel, at least in terms of Rupert’s origin. They can certainly do something with it, with the World Gate, but that just gets seriously complicated.

Tom doesn’t technically have a problem with reincarnation, per se, there are plenty of people demonstrating that it is done, gods have even told him they do it. He just refuses to believe he is Orcus. For one thing, and perhaps he should “think this” if he was Orcus, what’s up with the 4,000 year delay?

How would Orcus’ animus have escaped Excrathadorus Mortis? and it’s inky blackness when he could not flee the plane? Where would Orcus’ animus have escaped to?

Yes, I think he needs to ponder these additional items.

in reply to: Next Alpha #5962

Probably don’t want to axe the orcs/D’Orcs as they are the ‘ostensible’ apostles of doom and the cover is almost done with them on it….

While I like to do some bait and switch, (see spoiler on the goal of Nysegard) I think there is a limit to how much I can do and not have people scream.

I really intended to have a LOT more in this book for Tal Gor etal. In my original timeline this is where they were really shining. But things started flowing differently and they got pushed back. In part this is because they are ground based and have to travel and the rest of the story is moving faster than they are.

As for the barons…I go back to the fact that by the alpha end, it’s been a week and a half…the barons live on the other side of the multiverse.

BIG thing to remember, we are talking IMMORTALS. They do not move fast, not as fast as Tom is moving right now. And that is a real advantage that Tom has, he can react far faster than the majority of his opponents.

He would be running rings around Tiernon if not for Hilda and her unorthodox manner.

Lilith can keep up, but that’s because that’s how she keeps her power, demons don’t have the sort of luxury of ponderings that gods do, since all of her enemies and most of her allies are plotting against her all the time.

Note how everyone is surprised at how fast the Alvar are moving. No one expects long lived alvar to move this quickly to thwart Tom. I need to play this up in the Nimbus…note to self.

    Hah hah.

That may even be a bit more obscure then decimate. Decimate was/is just one of those words that sticks in my craw, so to speak, because almost everyone uses it wrong.

Whereas very few people even know the wrong usage of sapience. I’m not sure they know it’s even a word meaning having or showing wisdom and sound judgement.

Of course, being the cynic that I am, I would argue this is understandable given that it is a quality that very few current leaders and role models seem to have. Certainly no one going viral on the Internet has this quality.

I would plan for next week.

This week I am actually going back over the current alpha and working on not only technical fixes that have been reported, but also working on the simpler of the bigger notes and changes.

Things like increasing Ruiden’s presence, trying to make him “not dissappear/forgotten” yet not break things that work. Exposing more of what Torean and Tiernon are up to and know. Visit from the Emissary of Chaos, inquiring as to “where’s my maelstrom?”

One thing to consider, and which I dropped the ball on: the KoC are toasted/gone/exploded and then sucked into Doom. So as far as the LoC know, the maelstrom completely vanished. Before they decide on vengeance, they have to know WTF happened to them.

As far as the last 20% or whatever amount it is, I am still trying to buy myself time in the book (not me, but the Storm Lords…they have to move a very large army in quickly and this takes days….so what is happening in the meantime with the orcs and D’Orcs and how to cover it without running out of space)

I also plan to reveal more of what is going on with the Alfar; I just don’t want to steal any oomph from Tal Gor’s battle. I see that as the big opening salvo in the Alvaran conflict. The easiest way to do this, and explain the Xtra-Dimensional booty call is to bring forward events with the *-nargoloths. Arg-nargoloth and the other commanders are actually a lot more complex powerful than we’ve seen. They are at least archdemon equivalents and I think it is time to show this.

    Hi

So my artist, jubjubjedi has completed the cover for AoD.

This time around it’s a full wrap around cover for the book. The big reason for this is Facebook posts/ads which have an immutably stupid landscape ratio that makes it impossible to get a portrait cover displayed correctly without sidebars.

    [albumimg]24[/albumimg]

Now, it’s not a literal scene from the book since there are characters in there that are never together in this book.

Tal Gore is in front, then we have Fer Rog and Rupert various other orcs and in the lower right is Zog Darthelm (the sith like D’Orc)

It’s a bit dark, but hopefully underscores why the Alvar are freaking out.

Here is a sample as it would look as a flattened book cover.

    [albumimg]25[/albumimg]

    Possible blurb
After 4,000 years of waiting, Prophecy has been fulfilled! The Dark Lord Tommus, heir to the Throne of Orcus, has relit Mount Doom in the Abyss! It is time for the
Orcs to reclaim their rightful place upon the Planes of Orc!

As the Orcs rejoice and race to rebuild the connections between their worlds and the Abyss and the Alvar gird for war, Tom discovers his new home comes with some unexpected guests; guests who may provide him leverage in his conflict with the god Tiernon.

Hilda and crew work to establish a new base of operations upon the plains of Murgatroy to launch a rescue mission for Talarius.

Exador needs the assistance of the Storm Lords to destroy Lenamare and the Council of Wizardry and seize The Book once and for all; in return they want his help to recreate the lost works of the Dark Apostle.

Lilith, meanwhile is preoccupied by a Baron of Chaos who wants to know where is Maelstrom went.
Very good point!

    Thanks for the catch!

I just did an edit of that scene with Tiernon yesterday, guess I need to edit again.

in reply to: Question about creating D’Orcs #5799

    Drilling down in more detail.
Even with the use of anima jars to capture the souls – I still think this is problematic..

    What if:
    1. The shamans where the first ones killed in the battle…who’s going to collect the souls then?
Then no D’Orcs that time around.
2. Enemy action – target the soul jars during the battle and you could loose a lot of potential D’Orcs
    3. In intense battle, will the shamans actually have time to stop battling to collect the soul of a fallen fighter?
Probably not, however, if there was someone they particularly wanted to get, the shamans would have orders to link to that person to make sure they got got.
4. How many souls per anima jar?? Are the shamans going to have to pack 20, 30, 40 jars with them in the fight?
Only one per jar. They aren’t very big, it would get tight. 🙂
5. D’Orcs are supposed to be the best of the best…the elite…who judges which orcs should be made into D’Orcs especially in the middle of battle…do the shamans just collect everyone and Orcus / Tom sorts them all out later??? A spin on the old “Kill them all and let god sort them out” approach
It’s general consensus, we are talking the epic/most legendary orcs in general. They can also be recommended by D’Orcs who observe them and think they are worthy.

Also, not all go upon death, once nominated and approved, they can generally choose the time of their ascension.

Same thing with the D’Wargs. Typically, the D’Wargs are the partners of the new D’Orc, but not always. D’Wargs can nominate particularly good wargs.

And in some cases, there are wargs like Schwarzenfurze that are so fierce, mean, nasty and belligerent that they get nominated to get them out of the way. 🙂

Actually, that’s a joke told about her. She came with her partner orc.

    4. Is Tizzy the last survivor of the old universe? I keep getting Zifnab vibes.
Zif…, Fiz….really can’t use any of those… :-”

Perhaps…I do believe more concretely, however, that he makes a reference at some point to his friend Nathan/a guy with a well world. However, not seeing it so it may have been in the forums.
