I guess I had assumed that the temperature of lower regions was close to the temperature of lava, if its just around 100C that makes more sense.

It could go into some sort of x-whiskey or something. I don’t think even an Arch-demon could pass a size limit on alcohol in the abyss.

Well, not everyone can be you and recognize people by smell from the other side of an infinite plane

It just seemed kinda obvious that that’s how things would work. Otherwise it would be super easy for extraplanar beings to impersonate each other. The only other ways they would have to identify each other would be secrets, codes, and links, and you couldn’t have a link to everyone and wouldn’t want to let everyone know who or what you have links to. And secrets and codes can be compromised. I bet all the gods and higher powered beings recognize each other mostly off of their animus. Obviously any devices would be a lot more specific and exacting, but demon sight or saint sight or god sight can probably recognize people pretty well. Like remembering a face vs facial recognition software.

Obviously this wouldn’t work when they are in disguise and are hiding their animus in some way, but when they are with allies and trying to prove who they are, its a simple method that would be almost impossible to fake.

Do the weak demons like Zargoffelstan trust the “good” wizards more out of rationality or Stockholm Syndrome?
Zargoffelstan’s reasoning for not abandoning Hortwell was that he was the best master he had ever had and that he didn’t want to get stuck with someone worse. However, the fact that Hortwell was able to summon Tom shows that any wizard with a true name and enough skill and power can summon a demon from the abyss, even if they already have a binding to another demon. Sure, we know that the wizard that binds the demon normally has the greatest power over them, but a demon that has had several masters already wouldn’t be affected by that. The only protection from other wizards that Hortwell offered him was that he couldn’t be summoned while on Astlan. However, if he killed Hortwell, or let Tom do it, and went and hid as far from society as possible, he could get at least several hundred years of freedom from summon and safety from anything strong enough to stop him if he laid low didn’t cause problems. If he stays with Hortwell, his protection goes away in a couple decades at most. Plus, even if he is killed or captured quickly afterwards, the knowledge that he escaped will cause other wizards who hear about it to be less likely to summon him.

So, I propose that either Zargoffelstan and other demons like him suffer from Stockholm Syndrome, or at least for the younger, weaker demons, they aren’t as jaded or evil as even they think they are.

Also on the subject of weak demons, does each summoning imbue them with a minuscule amount of magic similar to the original binding but on a much weaker level? This could explain how weak, non mana-using first order demons can eventually get stronger. This is a pretty common demon summoning trope, but does Astlan work this way? If so, it could explain a lot about Tizzy. Billions of years of summons have to make even a second order pretty special.

Knowing how people treat security, there are probably tons of places that Tom could get into if he could use Doom to mimic the Animus signatures of his prisoners. I wonder if the Olympians made their own plane or just re-purposed the titans.

If he could somehow disguise himself as his prisoners, he could hit every pantheon, since they would never admit to having such a huge security flaw and being robbed or broken into or whatever Tom decides to do.

A pipe is nothing without its contents, and while I don’t doubt that smoking something made from Tizzy would get anyone high, I doubt he would smoke himself. So the weed at least is real. So he is storing it in some sort of hammer space.

I refer to you in the third person because other people might read or respond. Maybe someone else will have a response or theory about you.

So the smuggling Asmeth was wanted for involved them? That’s awesome. It definitely explains why the oorstemothians wanted him so badly. Not that they wouldn’t chase someone across Astlan for something simple. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had executed entire ships crews for paperwork errors.

So, my thought right now, is that Tom and Rupert are in the exact same boat. They are both ancient deities/demons that should have been permanently killed, but somehow reincarnated. I think Tom only stayed human his whole life because of the low mana density on Earth. Maybe if he had lived a few more decades he would have eventually started turning like how Rupert did. I bet if “human” Tom had been taken to the abyss, he would have reformed there whenever he died just like how Rupert did. We also don’t know the time difference between Earth and Astlan. Whatever ( cough, Tizzy, cough) caused them to reincarnate could have happened at the same time, Tom might just be older because Earth is a bit faster. This way we don’t need any of the completely denied time travel shenanigans, or someone else being the father. This would also explain how a “half-demon” like Rupert is so powerful, he didn’t have a demon parent and a human parent, he had a demon parent and a surrogate.

So, this is a very minor plot point, but what skill is Tom gonna work on next?
He focused on being able to shape clothes and master other shapes for awhile, but whats next? There is just so much magic in this multiverse that there’s basically an infinite number of things he could focus on next. I’m hoping that he goes for a hammer space. We know its possible, and not just because of accusations about Tizzy. I can’t remember who was talking to Antefalken ( either Tom or Reggie), but when they asked about Tizzy’s pipe, he said he thought he knew what trick he used, but then backtracked, because it was something Tizzy either shouldn’t be able to do, or had directly claimed he couldn’t do. So ignoring whatever Tizzy does, Antefalken still either knows or knows of a hammer space technique. This should be one of Tom’s priorities, since he has his Rod, the arrows, and his loincloth to store when he gets big. If he ever loses those arrows, he loses a major trump card, and while I doubt losing the Rod would be easy, it would still be useful to be able to store it away no matter where he is.

On that note, I’m actually a bit surprised the rod doesn’t have a storage feature built in, unless it was an ability Orcus didn’t need any help with.

So they could be the same age. Actually it would be hilarious if it turns out Rupert is actually a bit older than Tom.

But, back to my theory. If Tom had lived on Earth longer could he have gathered enough mana to begin transforming into a demon, or was his body truly, purely human?

Is Mercury part of the element of water? The only reason to associate it with Earth is the fact that it is a metal. In its characteristics it is a perfect match for elemental water.

I could see it being a para-element, even though scientifically it is a pure element.

If it is part of Water or a combo of Earth and Water, there should have been mana generation occurring at Hell Springs Eternal.

Also, Mercury should be a gas at the temperature of the Abyss, which defeats all of my points, but brings up the question of how its a liquid. Unless I’m remembering wrong and Hell Springs Eternal didn’t have Mercury baths and only Mt. Doom did.

So once another god gets onto a plane they can manipulate it? They arent locked into the gods who created the plane? I guess that explains why they care so much about defending their planes.

When we first meet Bess, she mentions that she has some sort of grudge against Jehenna. I don’t think it has come up again but I could be wrong. Either way, what did Jehenna do to piss off an incognito goddess.

Well that brings up the whole new question of why they were at a dinner party together while she was pretending to be a demon.
