I don’t know. People are so rude nowadays. I mean, I talk to the live things I catch all the time, but they never talk back. Sure, there’s all the screaming at first, until I swallow them and they suffocate, but no talking. I’ve even offered to only digest their bottom half, so they can talk, but no, just a lot more screaming.
I don’t really get it.
GelcubeMemberOh, oh! Another thought popped up!
Ok, I’ll have to re-re-re-read the appropriate section, but I don’t remember Lenamare and/or Jehenna actually mentioning Tom’s new possible “status” to Hortwell/Trisfelt in THH. Now, I doubt Trisfelt would summon any demon, it’s just not his forte’, but Hortwell might. Since I’d like to see him and Zargoffelstan again, wouldn’t it be a hoot if Hortwell attempted to summon Tom now?
GelcubeMemberD’Oh! You’re right. I forgot about the balling (that just sounds dirty every time). And Hortwell is far too careful to do something so rash. Still, I think it would be funny. Maybe Zargoffelstan will cross paths with Tom again! Don’t know why I like those two. I just think there’s some interesting stories there.
Edit: And Tizzy, you’re too concentrated. They can only take you in small doses! No one wants watered-down Tizzy.
GelcubeMember
Where does Tommus keep his Rod? In his pants?
Nooo, that Rod is on display…proudly. No, in THH, Tom started wearing a loincloth/utility belt that he keeps stuff in.
GelcubeMemberI still say Tom should just yank on that link, jerk Lenamare to the Abyss, and swallow his soul.
GelcubeMemberI’ve never ate anything myself, but I heard from a distant cousin that it ate the corpse of a lawyer, and it got food poison and couldn’t move for a week. Other than that, I’ve personally digested liche corpses (after they’ve been “deactivated”), flesh golems, humans, dwarves, elves, basilisks, griffins, and things I couldn’t identify, but were still tasty. I’ve never digested a demon or avatar, though.
GelcubeMember
Well, the people in earlier (pre book II) discussions did not rule out Bess being there; it was simply “unknown” at the time.
We have no evidence of where she was at that point.
True. If she was there, and she was hiding, the mirror might not have shown her at all, or showed her as an archdemon. Still, so far it’s been a generally thrown out that Rupert is a 4th order, and there only appeared to be one 4th in the palace at the time of the scan, and the book placed Tom, Rupert, Exador, and Ramses in the palace at that time. So the question is really how accurate the HMoE is.
If you were to see their full power, then chances are, they are exercising it at that moment and you’d better hope you are on their side. Now, the question is, what does the Mirror see? And how true is it? Well, it is obviously better than wizard/demon/priest sight or why use it?
But we just don’t know.
Well, during the scan in ITA, Exador and Ramses weren’t exercising their powers, and presumably were trying to hide themselves as human, and the HMoE still saw them as archdemons, so based on that, I’d have to say the mirror is pretty accurate on a general level. I’m now interested in just where it came from. How powerful must it be to bypass all an archdemon’s stealth techniques?
Also, now that there are avatars rolling around Freehold, how long before someone gets a hit on Hilda or one of the others?
GelcubeMemberMaybe it only detects Abyss-based energy patterns. As Outer Plane energy patterns, Bess and the Teirnon avatars wouldn’t be detected. That likely means the HMoE has some kind of extra-planar link to the Abyss.
Tom might be able to see that link and sever it, unmaking the mirror
or…
If Tom could isolate what energy frequency it’s actually monitoring, then he might be able to jam it (at least for himself).
GelcubeMemberYes, but we know you have abilities that you shouldn’t for your “Class”. I’m pretty certain insanity doesn’t show up in the mirror.
Ooo, steal it and learn how to do the same thing WITHOUT the mirror!
GelcubeMemberOoo, I have no idea what flavor I am. I’ve never eaten myself.
GelcubeMember
AND! Since we demons already live in the Abyss, and are “by definition” damned to eternal torment and agony, any sin or evil attached to stealing the free will and soul of a wizard is pretty negligible compared to our over all evil levels; which, by definition are all at 100% or higher.
Not to take attention away from my most awesome idea of Lenamare’s other demons showing up in AOD, and I may regret asking this, but…
How evil would you have to be for your overall evil levels to be OVER 100%?
GelcubeMemberThe problem with that is that Rupert said his mother gave him a description of his father, which closely resembles Tom’s demon form. Jenn also noted in ITA that there was a family resemblance between Rupert and Tom when Tom first introduced himself as Edwyrd. Tom was concentrating very hard on his previous form, and didn’t have the control yet to alter it to more closely resemble Rupert. So they are most likely related in some way. That’s not to say they actually ARE father/son, but at least related.
I see where you’re going with that, and it’s a very interesting concept, I just don’t think it’s likely in this situation. Not to say it’s NOT true. Like you said, we really don’t have completely reliable eyewitness accounts of Rupert’s conception/birth, so this is all complete speculation at the moment. Just that the anecdotal evidence points to them actually being related.
GelcubeMemberOk, so in Ch. 67 of ITA, Talarius gives a rundown on how the HMoE works, and proceeds to scan Freehold, revealing that there are three Archaedemons in play.
Now, at this time, we know that Bess isn’t in in the palace. So that means the bright green spot Talarius spies is Rupert, and the three Archaedemons are Tall Dark and Scary, Exa-AngerManagementIssues-dude, and Tom. This seems to confirm that at this moment in the story Tom is indeed an Archaedemon.
So this leaves me with two questions…
1) Since Bess is actually a goddess in disguise, how would she show up in the HMoE? As gold/silver/light tones, or not at all?
2) How would Tom show up now, as Dark Lord Tommus? (Maybe we’ll get to find out in AOE?2020-06-02 at 15:22 in reply to: General misconceptions about demons and other thought or mana entities #2857GelcubeMember
Well, Boggy isn’t that old. He never met Orcus, that was way before his time.
That’s kind of my point. If demons who’ve never met or seen the Concordenax are calling his name, they don’t know him, they just BELIEVE in him somewhat, right? So does that small belief leech a little mana to him? Even in small quantities, I bet it would be a respectable amount in aggregate.
Also, a father of human children (so I understand), don’t actually give birth to them, they are just instrumental in their creation, and they’re there to welcome them to the world.
…like a Welcoming Committee?
True. I suspect it’s a him, but you’re right, I don’t know. 😉
Who is the father of human children? Not following. :-s
Sorry, sometimes what goes through my slime doesn’t come out properly into English. I simply meant a human father doesn’t birth the child. Just welcomes it to the world.
