MemberYes, too true.
I am hoping I get the right balance. There are limits to what I can do and keep the storyline on track, and sometimes you have to grit your teeth over the screams and power through until the screams hopefully come back to cheers…

MemberI know; not hearing much after beta 4…so just kind of going with it. It’s all at the editor; hopefully she will be finishing up in the next week or so. She was up through 106 at the beginning of the month. And of course I had some changes in 106; although most were 109 to the end.
The thing I really need at this point is for more people to vote on the name of Book 3.
That’s the one big piece of feedback I am missing.
I am writing it; at the moment the file is just called Book 3; whereas before I always named the file the title of the book.
Actually more blurb thoughts are also useful.

MemberYou can add to the list.
It’s just that the other series I am working on, which is based in sort of a superhero world, the first novel is called Chaos Rising because it’s the start of a vigilante “hero” that the press call Captain Chaos. So Agent of Chaos makes a lot of sense for a title. If I put the pedal to the metal, I’d be done with book 1 (which is shorter than DoA) in about a month or two, but the editor is booked for a while, so I’ve put it on the back burner.
One reason I late added “Apostles of Doom” is because that covers: Vaselle, Rupert, Fer-Rog, the Shamans, Damien, Gastrope’, etc.

MemberWell, that’s part of the problem as I expand, I can’t tell how much I am going to be able to fit in one book, given maximum dead tree size.
I am now getting so many lines that giving everyone time and in the right order becomes a bit difficult. And I need these other character story lines to drive the paranoia levels up to where more people start freaking out about Tom.
Tom is not really doing anything evil, but his wacky minions (Apostles) are tripping over themselves trying to do their things and trying to hide stuff (Gastrope’, Damien, Jenn are not revealing all they know) or just being too naive to see the consequences of their actions (Vaselle, Fer-Rog, Rupert, the orcs)
So to be honest, I don’t know all of what’s going to make it there, and probably won’t until the next beta, where you guys will start whacking away at stuff again.
I have to say, I’ve been extremely happy with all the help you guys have provided. It’s going to be an infinitely better book thanks to you guys. It will not be perfect for everyone, and probably not the best it could be if I had another 6 months or so…but it is much better now.
I assume the same will be true for 3; however, I am taking the advice from Book 2 beta and trying to avoid things that didn’t work in book 2.
I think Into Chaos lines nicely with the first book and I like the Infernal style.
Infernal Dealings?

MemberIn theory a lot of the action for book 2 got pushed to book 3, on top of what was planned for book 3.
It’ll just keep coming back to what will fit and how much needs to be told between “big things” so that they make sense.
Where the Baron goes? Well hard to predict, his actions are often…”chaotic”
o:)
The Author Guy
MemberI really like the tone you use.
Biggest thing is one should not write out his true name in print, and on the back of a book cover; otherwise a whole bunch of wanna be wizards are going to try and conjure him. This could become inconvenient for him.
Second thing, and it’s one that I am fighting with myself, is the use of “Dark Lord” Clearly that is true for Book 3 (which I am working on, so it is now stuck in my head and I keep trying to put it in blurbs) but if I try to unremember ‘book 2’ I have to ask is it “Too early to call him a Dark Lord” before he takes over Mount Doom?
He refers to himself that way on the throne, but that’s half way through the book.
I am almost thinking I should have wrote the blurb before the book as I now have too much information that may not be appropriate to share before the book happens. I need to recapture the shock and confusion people had at the end of Book 1. Which of course is tricky since different people had different ideas of what Tom was.
Thoughts?

MemberHere is another try:
The dishonorable, cheating Forces of Good have been defeated!Tom Perkinje, the reluctant Greater Demon and recent transplant from Harding NJ to the Abyss has defeated and captured the not-so-valiant Sir Talarius, Knight Rampant of Tiernon and the holy army, the Rod of Tiernon, that helped him cheat in battle with Tom.
Unfortunately, to do so, he had had to hack the mana streams between the god Tiernon and his High Priests, and now his buddies are telling him that Tiernon is going to send a Host to investigate this unprecedented event. Oh, and the fact that he reversed a Holy Artifact of Tiernon has not gone unnoticed either. The folks upstairs are not pleased.
His actions have completely disrupted the plans of not only the Rod of Tiernon, but also the Sky Fleet of Oorstemoth who had thought to bring Tom to justice for defending himself and his friends. The two armies are now looking to unite to rescue Talarius and arrest Tom.
Then of course, there are the three Arch Demons trying to steal a book that Lenamare, Tom’s Accursed Master, stole from Oorstemoth; and whose demon horde had been infesting the wizard city of Freehold. Thanks to Tom’s secret identity as the Animage Edwyrd, their demons were driven from the city and now they are locked outside the city, unable to get their hands on the book they need to seize power in the Abyss.
Tom has managed to anger both the Forces of Good and the Forces of Evil. Super. Now, if he could just figure out what to do with his hostage?
The Author Guy
MemberWell, it turns out that people now bittorrent ebooks, so there is no longer a way to ensure that stuff stays where you publish it; it’s possible someone on a higher mana plane may have a TOR connection and be able to torrent the book…
Of course, if that’s the case Tom is already screwed since his name is in the book….hmm…probably should have thought this out and redacted his name in book 1; you know like a black marker bar thing.
The Author Guy
MemberActually, thinking on “Dark Lord” some more, I remember something that I thought several months ago with Titles.
The appropriate term is not “Dark Lord” but “D’Orc Lord”
:-“

MemberI’ve noticed that post beta 4 (or about beta 4) people sort of vanished from the site. I.e. very little activity in the forum sort of causes people to check less often; so not a lot of people have been logging in to see this.
I think that’s actually a problem of the beta forums being for the beta demons only. You have to login to see activity in the beta forums and you have to log in to see the shout box.
So what is happening is people come by, but don’t log in and don’t see anything happening (because they aren’t logged in) and they go away.
Pre-beta we had more activity because all the forums could be read by anyone and you didn’t have to hassle with logging in to see if there was a discussion.
I think I am going to post in a public forum asking beta readers to vote. Actually I will move your please Vote post to a public forum, if it’s not there already.
The Author Guy
MemberYou are write on the stats, that’s what I watch. But you have to be logged in to see the stats on the beta forums because they aren’t public.
So for example, what we say during heavy beta testing was a ton of activity, exactly as you note. However someone cruising by, even a beta reader, if they don’t log in so the system knows they are a beta reader, they will not see any of the activity in the beta forums.
So to non-beta readers and non-logged in people it looked as if nothing was happening in the forums; even though there was a lot of activity.

MemberYes, there was a lot of play on Doom and Dune in that list.
Children of Doom/Children of Dune was an intentional conflabulation.
And the book will be about the Heir(s) of Orcus/Children of Doom/Apostles of Doom.
The variance is because you’ve got multiple characters that are carrying the story of Doom but aren’t necessarily children.
Rupert, Fer-Rog, and yes Tom at (16 now about 17) are technically minors; thus Children of Doom. Tal Gor is young also; but probably not a child by Orc custom.
Vaselle, Damien, Gastrope’ and (Jenn) and the other shamans are not children but are in some ways apostles. Ooh, that makes me think of a new one…
Legacy of Doom.

MemberIf you are a Heavenly Host Beta Demon, login and vote for the name of Book 3. We are now on the second and final round.

MemberHi,
There are people posting in the Beta demon forums but even that has slowed down as of beta 4.
The book is at the technical editor; and I’m about to send the latest/extended ending to her this week (Monday). She hopes to be finished in the second half of September and then I need another 1.5 to 2 weeks to get it out there.
A lot of the beta 3/beta 4 editions were centered around the break point of books 2 and 3.
We’ve now shoved some of what was coming in book 3 into book 2 making it a bit longer than book 1. (There are also some other things throughout book 2 that are now going to book 3)
So in short, the book is basically complete, just waiting on editing and working on final polishes etc.
I expect to have it out by the end of September.
In the meantime, I am starting work on book 3.
On the tech issues; yes, there is some serious tech weaponry used in book 2.
