MemberIt was, btw, more of a game watching remark, particularly because it is rather far fetched; however, they don’t know the details about why Talarius is ‘on loan’ to
Tom.Remember, in Nysegard, Tiernon and Orcus were allies, up until Sentir Fallon screwed things over in Etterdam.
On the Beragamos disappearing, let’s revisit this after Beta 1 release when we know how much space we have left.

MemberAhh….very good….
=d>
Since you came up with that idea and the thought of Tizzy disappearing.
Book 1: Chapter 73 Antefalken and Lilith talking“The kid looks identical to his ‘father.’ Tom, that’s the newbie’s name, is rather inexact on the whole issue, but Tizzy reports that they’re father and son. Boggy claims, however, that this Tom is a kid from one of the midtech Earths.”
“Puzzling.” Lilith said, interested but obviously not too intrigued. “Well, you know better than to trust anything this Tizzy says. He’s one of the most deceitful little pests I can think of. I still don’t know why his accursed master only kept him imprisoned for a few decades in the Cenobite trap. I’d have left him there for all eternity.”
“That’s a rather cruel fate, even by your standards,” Antefalken pointed out.
Lilith just shrugged. She took another sip of brandy and continued, “So, what do you and your illustrious master Damien intend to do about this horde of demons and the Rod of Tiernon?”
Member
As far as anyone that noticed him being gone (and I think there are a couple of references) his accursed master put him in that trap, that is what he has told people. However, Tizzy never really talks about his accursed master and never has to go visit him, and in fact, Gastrope’ is currently his accursed master, and there can be only one (Accursed Masters are all Highlanders)
So either Tizzy killed his accursed masters within the last 10 years or so, or he was lying about the cenobyte trap to cover his disappearance.
I would have to check, but Tizzy reappeared about a decade ago, after being gone for twenty to thirty years.

MemberI think he would probably have to reforged, which would hurt.
And we don’t know that he is a “demon slaying sword” in the likes of a “soul sucking sword”
Used against Tom in book 1, he did not permanently slay Tom.
Of course, perhaps in the Abyss, he could????
But what we do know is that Ruiden really enjoys killing demons. And he’s better at it than most other weapons. Same is actually true for Unlife.
The big thing about Ruiden, aside from being extremely sharp and light weight, is that as an intelligent sword he helps direct himself to critical spots.
That’s the big thing, you note how it is mentioned that he twists himself in Talarius’ grip to hit critical locations. So, for example, if he and Talarius wanted, he could work to always try and sever heads, or limbs, like a vorpal sword –snicker snack–snicker snack

MemberThe mirror is still at the camp. I am sure, if Barabus knew who was on the ship with him, he would regret leaving it with Iskerus.
Correct, golemize, fly and attack independently (as a golem), very sharp, lots of damage including magical damage (normal weapons don’t work against demons) and improved accuracy by guiding himself intelligently.
He can also see and hear (without eyes or ears) and speak. He’s also telepathic.
That is what we know so far.
The Author Guy
MemberYes, that sounds correctly
However, I may alter it to say “he was dead” before I opened the portal for the Unlife armies. Killing 20000 some D’Orcs even under these circumstances is a huge task; even if they are completely demoralized.
It was, however, the Dark Apostles magic that helped them, and it was the DA that gave Sentir Fallon Excrathatoris Mortis.
The Author Guy
MemberCorrect.
That is actually the operational theory that people have been working on. I need to look at that paragraph.
Please remind me to check it around Beta 1 time. I may want to unwind it a little bit make it more ambiguous. They may have been weakened, some killed, but 20K is a lot for one little blade to suck, presumably it needs mana to do that…of course if SF was fueling it mana
The Author Guy
MemberWell, that’s the rather odd thing, they don’t really have material bodies anywhere, same with avatars.
They form pseudo-bodies out of raw material when they go to material planes, and release them when they leave. That’s the fading in and out bit. (It’s also why they don’t really have organs, unless they think they do, or need them for dramatic purposes–remember how Edwyrd worried about eating in book 1)
That’s one reason even small demons that don’t do magic, need a lot of mana to be created because that’s an intrinsic function.
So technically when they go to the astral plane they simply release the material body and are pure mana bodied animus beings. When the get to the Abyss, they “materialize” a new body.
So in this context, the fade in, fade out is literally materialization and dematerialization much like a Star Trek transporter.
Now, when they open a portal to the Abyss (or from the Abyss) they are opening a hole between worlds and they are taking their “materialized” body between the worlds.
Same is all true for avatars, except that on the Outer Planes, their bodies are refleca materializations, not material materializations if that makes any sense.
Saints, are a bit different in that they still have a very real semi-material presence on the world of their origin. Which is why Hilda could enter Freehold, but Beragamos could not and had to incarnate a body.
Incarnating a body is where the archon/demon literally creates a true body of a particular race. It is indistinguishable from a human/orc/elf, whatever. It is mortal, and thus Beragamos could feel the aches and pains of an old man.
Demons typically do this via an incubus who creates a real baby for the other demon using the mother (succubus’s can do similar) this is a true mortal body, it will age and die.
We are not told exactly what Beragamos did, but he created a real body somehow and aged it to appear like his default self, very quickly. So it was somehow different than using an avatarabus or whatever such a thing would be called. Or maybe he did and then he just did an aging spell. We are not told
The Author Guy
MemberSame way as humans and other mortals.
Practice, study, working out. It’s a matter of learning from one’s experiences and growing.
Now, that being said, most demons have relatively few resources to aid in personal development then people living in more pleasant environments.
However, they go not have an expiration date. So typically this is a process that takes hundreds, or thousands of years.
Many demons don’t grow that much or at least fast enough that we can observe.
But this is just like people. Some people get a job, a situation they like, that is comfortable and they “coast” with out advancing their careers or personal power.
Then you have others that are driven to exceed and be the best, so they rise quickly.
And of course, you then have people that start off pretty strong (like Tom) via accident of birth. I.e. be born to wealth & power, for them the ladder to success isn’t that long, unless they slip on it and fall…

MemberYes, they will come back in after Beta 1, I will insert their sections in between existing sections.
There are a couple other ideas/discussions from Alpha2 involving Nimbus/Stone Fingers, I am putting all of that aside to get to Beta 1.
Keep in mind that in the HH that didn’t do an alpha, that started as a beta 1 and we added 40,000 words to it and took out about 10,000 words (the resolution of Darflow and Lilith’s army)

MemberOK
So got email from editor this morning about confirming our schedule (tentatively I said Nov 1, but it could slide (it was Oct 1 originally))
She was OK, just wanted me to keep her apprised.
She wrote this morning that she thinks AoD should take her 3-4 weeks in November and she has a possible big job for December, so what was the plan? Could I get it to her in early Novemember?
So, what I proposed is something I did last time.
I am going to send her a Beta version the first weekend in November that she can start on, while we continue on with beta.
We will then send her “updates” to proof later with changes
My hope though is to not make too many changes to the first half of the book, other than “inserts” and small changes that we can be sure are proofed, before sending her a beta to proof. (i.e. I’d rather not completely rewrite something she’s already proofed if I can avoid it as that ups the cost) Sending her insert sections is no problem.
This really doesn’t constrain us too much, other than we sort of need to get things wrapped up by the end of November, or do stuff that I can apply to the “edited” version in December.
But again, we do what has to be done for quality first. I’d just rather not have to push editing back to January because she’s busy in December, assuming we are ready in or before December.

MemberZombie grinding is the best thing, definitely.
Particularly because, as Teragdon muses, some zombies can use their detached limbs to continue to attack. Evil Dead style.
Of course, if you must slice vs crush, then you need to use a food processor or a blender.
And for that, we shall soon have Ruiden the sword golem!
He too can generate kinetic energy from nowhere.
The Author Guy
MemberI am going to ponder them in a moment but I want to quickly get into some background that may not be completely obvious as to why Tom (and the D’Orcs) are hesitant.
This is actually a big part of the “vision” and tying it out to what he’s been told.
Until now, the D’Orcs had no idea how Sentir Fallon permanently slew not only Orcus, but also 20,000+ D’Orcs.
Yes, D’Orcs are an incredible fighting force, but somehow, Sentir Fallon and Net PERMANENTLY killed over 20,000 D’Orcs, non of whom returned.
Now, they know, it was something exactly like what is happening at the Citadel.
I think it’s best said by Namora and Krinna in a later scene:
Tiernon shook his head. “Enough beating around the issue. The truth is that the knight and the demon showed up on the Isle of Doom when the demon restarted the Doom of Nysegard.”
“I’m sorry what?” Namora asked in shock. Krinna and Hendel had equivalent expressions on their faces.
“How did this demon manage to start one of the Doom satellites?” Krinna asked.
“I thought they were tied, and controlled via Mount Doom in the Abyss.” Hendel said.
“They are. The demon started that a bit before this.” Torean replied somberly.
That caused all three siblings to stare at Torean, and then Tiernon in shock.
Hendel sighed. “Exactly who is this demon?”
Tiernon gave Hendel an awkward smile. “We are fairly certain it’s you know who.” Namora’s face fell like a ton of bricks placed within a silk hammock. She was not pleased.
“You are telling us that the demon who stole both your mana and your knight is the god whose name literally means ‘Sacred Oath’; who has spent his entire existence punishing oath breakers? A god with whom we share an oath of loyalty and fraternity?” Namora asked scathingly.
“An oath which, as I recall, you broke!” Krinna said equally angrily.
“That this god is now, back from the dead?” Namora finished. She shook her head in anger at her brother.
“Yes.” Tiernon said. “We were trying to get a read on how angry he is.”
“A read?” Krinna asked incredulously.
“Oh, I don’t know?” Namora said. “Your idiot archon only permanently slew him along with over twenty thousand of his avatars and who knows how many hundreds of thousands of his followers!”
“You were not sure if he was going to be angry?” Hendel asked softly. “I think this is one of those situations you need to ask yourself, what would you be doing in his position?”
“And then get the hell out of town. Fast.” Krinna added vehemently.
So the point being, Tom and the Mount Doom D’Orcs do not want to have a repeat experience, particularly when they are at 1/10 the strength.
The Author Guy
MemberYes, people are shitting bricks, both sides are fearing a trap.
I’ve upped the stakes in the Council room, spelling out the death toll, having Tom and the others talk about it, and reupping the concern that it is a trap.
Remember, the Siblings do not know what is going on in Nysegard, they know nothing of how Sentir Fallon did what he did. They have not seen this plane blocking spell before, they are going to think it is Orcus.
The Author Guy
MemberHmm,
Not sure that would work, here is why.
When you demonize someone you have to kill off any bodies they have on the material plane.
However, demons do not (usually) have a material body anywhere (unless they do what Antefalken did with the incubus) or what Beragamos did.
Even so, their main body is their demon body and how do you kill that without permanently destroying the animus?
