MemberOf course, Mount Doom time looks a lot like Court Time, which oddly, looks a lot like Astlanian time.
I suspect that’s because so many demons come and go from Astlan so it makes some sense. After all, Astlan is one of the largest suppliers of demons in the multiverse, and if you look at history, they seem to be poaching them all from Earth.
Sort of like Europeans & Americans with Africa I guess.

MemberAs did I…
Not sure when I will start but….anxious to hear it.

MemberYes, but he’s a pretty new author, first book was in October 2016. Don’t think he has figured out the advantages of KU yet, nor price optimization.
Price a bit less, sell a lot more, make a lot more. And KU, as I keep saying is a great deal for authors…unless you have some magical way of getting your book noticed on the apple bookstore, BN or playstore.
I wasn’t on KU at first (but it wasn’t as good a deal then either) because I wanted to be at all bookstores. Quickly found out that they don’t count for a plate of mash potatoes against the mountain of Amazon.
Never sold anything on Apple, sold maybe 2 or 3 on BN, sold 4 on Smashwords, sold 5 or 6 on Playstore in the first 2-3 months, compared with a couple hundred on Amazon.
Currently I make about 2x as much from KU as from individual sales, and individual sales are 2 orders of magnitude beyond what I could do elsewhere.

MemberNot anywhere near where I wanted to be.
I got attacked by “work demons” forcing me to earn money by doing things that generate revenue faster…prior to that, I was stuck in a Facebook new spiral…that place is probably worse than youtube in terms of preventing things getting done.
On the plus side, I’ve been doing lots of plotting and scene planning, so the overall stories are improving even if the word count is.
And actually, this is important, once I have the story down and start typing, I can generate a lot of words fast, but doing that requires me to sort of charge up by not writing for periods and telling the story over and over in my head in different ways. This happened for all the other books. The difference is that I’m working on 3 books at the moment…and actually that’s now finding myself annoyed at how it’s affected my focus.

Member
He kinda has bigger problems to deal with.
That has actually sort of been my official position, as I’ve tried to bring up, while it’s a lot of words, it’s not a lot of time.
By the end of Book 3, Tom has been a demon for about 3 months Earth time. During which time he’s gone from hated slave to demon hero stuck in a cave with a hostage to suddenly lord of Mount Doom and savior of the Orcs and D’Orcs, been attacked by Lilith, a Chaos Maelstrom, met and had dinner with the Egyptian gods, engaged in a battle with an overwhelming Undead Army with a group of immortals whom he feels very uncomfortable around (for many reasons).
Romance (vs booty calls like Reggie does) takes time in real life and even in the books, it’s a complex dance, a courtship and is often (in books/movies) a quest of its own.
When it happens, it needs to be right, and for the moment there are no obvious options (or are there?) even if the option is there, there needs to be time for it, etc.
One big impediment is that there are a LOT of misconceptions and perceived power imbalances that come along. These make romance difficult even when there is time. Think of Notting Hill (which was on cable this morning normal guy dating movie star) now magnify it by a lot. Anyone that would be a social/political peer would probably be thousands of years old and have who knows what motivations? And Tom is too scary/awe inspiring for someone who is his age/internal peer group.
So, it is tricky, and there is a lot to overcome to move such a storyline along. It can be done, however; it just can’t be done quickly or it will feel forced.
However, I can say, that those looking for a more traditional coming of age, romance story, that will be there in CoA:ITW. I sort of think of it as Jane Austen does swamp dragons, orcs, pterosaurs and I’iskatha.

MemberOr is it a typo?
Maybe he just didn’t get the reference to some quote!
🙂
Considering how many times this book has been run through various proofing, it is amazing how something that obvious got missed.
That book took so long that I read, reread a jillion times and then through the actual editor.
Thanks!

MemberI read about that, in Japan, and it’s a real problem as everyone gets older and there is no younger workforce to support the older generations and they do not encourage immigrants so there are definitely going to be some economic problems within a few years or decades.
The Author Guy
MemberI should think so.
Jaquesparrow? Are you saying the man is not an immortal? He really should be dead by now. In fact, I think he was dead in the first movie, yes?
🙂
Now, torn. Do I go continue watching Vikings, or watch Warrcraft? I skipped it in the theaters due to bad reviews and other stuff out at same time. But bought it this week once the price got reasonable. However, i bought it late and night and was thinking it would be too loud for the neighbors upstairs.

MemberSo the font is supposed to be black, but for some reason the epub version sends it to gray. I found and option to strip all colors and that seems to work.
Still having various wacky issues to work through but getting there.

MemberWell, it’s only one word. Doomstar and in the case of Gormegast, it’s a very large moon/dwarf planet very close to the size of Pluto, however, the volcano is huge and sort of makes the Doomstar look like one of Robert Heinlein’s torchships.
At last contact it was orbiting a gas giant, however, thanks to the elemental portals it can also move like a torchship. And, there is an aethereal drive as well, as well as large weapon batteries and defensive shields.

MemberNot sure how far I’ll take them here in this series, let’s be honest, they are second, if not third string players for this story.
That being said, I have another (porn) novel called The Incubus that is about 70K words so far. It’s about the son of a TV/Megachurch minister who becomes an Incubus (completely different mythology than DoA) and has some very serious good vs evil (and lots of sex of every perversion) that I will probably release under a pseudonym some day.
I also have been thinking very seriously (for several years) about a first person novel that is basically the Adversary, in modern terms, talking to himself (ala transcribed magical diary). The idea being to take the reader into the mind of the devil. It’s actually a serious book, more along the metaphysical/religious fiction model than fantasy. I mean, yes, its fantasy, but it would be much more grounded in modern concepts of good vs evil. I.e. philosophical, the musing of the Satan etc.
It’s a topic that sort of drives me to distraction.

MemberNope, going to keep in miles and use “humans” or short “orks” as the baseline. Since they and their ability to walk are more likely to be invariant than other factors such as Planck’s constant or c or G or any other “fundamental unit” that can be used for distance.
Also can’t use parsecs, or rather we could, but it would have to be based on Gormegast and the distance from its star which I’d then have to calculate…and that would not do any good since I still wouldn’t have any underlying measurement unit.

MemberEhhh…
Page flip really only works well on my Kindle PW…and even then it ends up confusing me since its working differently than on my iphone/ipad and memopad. Although I think it did magically start working on ipad, not yet working on memo pad (android) just checked.
I think you have an original version.
Do you see the ToC on the navigation bar? I.e. you can easily flip to the ToC?
That was there on first version, but subsequent ones that fix the fonts has it disappear. It’s all part of what is driving me nuts. Amazon staff are all on vacation since they aren’t responding withing 24 hours as they are supposed to.
There are just so many wacky issues. A simple word upload doesn’t even work and I’ve gone over the docx with every tool I can find and there is nothing wrong with the file. So I have to do epubs or html, both of which, now end up with indexing problems. However, the first epub, which I think you have, did have an ToC (which is why I am asking you to see if you do—all have ToC at the start, but you can’t jump to it by nav bar.

MemberWhispersync is now available for Book 1.
People who own the ebook can get the audio version at a substantially reduced price. $3.47 in USD.

MemberSure, good idea. That’s been mentioned before.
I think the irony is that they learned almost as much from Hilda etal as they did from their various tools and instruments.
It’s all about the ‘ground game’ as Tiernon is learning. I will point out this is also what the western intel community has found out trying to track terrorists, old fashioned spying and people on the ground can tell you a lot more than satellites and radio interceptions etc.
