Well the demons can trace the bindings back to where their master is, they have to be able to in order to show up where they are called.
This reminds me, Reggie was able to return to Astlan w/o being summoned because he followed the binding. This seems to imply that ANY demon could follow its binding back to its master and attack if it wanted. And yet there is nothing that seems to indicate this is so or has happened.

Is this consistent w/ books 1 and 2?
When/where was this? I don’t think that would be consistent. I don’t remember him returning to Astlan except with his mistress, and then the dream walking which he was in Astlan for….

So I need to investigate this.

Hm, I went back and checked it was a dream-walking method he used to get to Astlan so he never physically manifested. It’s just that when I read it I had the impression he physically travelled via the fade method.

He wished there was some way he could make her summon him. Yes, he knew that it wasn’t supposed to work that way, but he wished he could. He shook his head, wishing he could follow that binding link sticking out of his chest, follow it through the astral plane to Merit-Ptah’s house. Reggie closed his eyes imagining how he’d do it. Just like in his dream-loving sessions, he would follow the link through the crazy lights until he saw her sleeping form.

I’ve made the parts that created that impression bold. Especially where it says “Just like in his dream-loving sessions” which implies what he is doing is NOT his dream-loving/walking.

Tom really is procrastinating on Lenamare.

Remember he is still in sort of passive mode getting his bearings and he’s got plenty of craziness and problems piling up and he is sort of shoving things to the back burners as teens really like to do (and even much older people like myself like to do “I can’t deal with this now–I’ll wait until it bites me in the ass!”)

But he should do something about it, but he won’t and he will regret it because at some point, someone in Freehold may need to bring out the big guns–meaning Tom.

You may recall that Elrose and Maelen both saw a war between the gods and demons with Freehold sort of at the center?

Maybe you could push the Alvar fight back a few days or something like that? Have the time skip occur prior to that fight, maybe he is temporarily grounded due to an extreme glargvhost or perhaps they need to track a MacGuffin of some kind(Maybe an ancient key designed to open the Doomalogue).

    Hmm, that might work.

I was basing time off of travel time, but I suppose they could have spent an extra day or two at Mount Orc.

    Thinkalating on it….

Tom does not like Lenamare. he really does not want to have anything to do with the guy. So my thought would be that the more Lenamare is not in the picture, the better for Tom, he has enough on his plate. Why invite the frustration of dealing with such a jerk.
Well, for once Revenge. Tom was tortured by Lenamare.

But more important, it sounds shortsighted and dangerous.

Tom is still an bound Demon. Lenamare is famous for large group Magics and his flexible sigils (which can definitly be used against Arch Demons).
As I see it Tom is just coasting on his Reputation.

If he would be summoned, what would be his countermeasures? While his connection with Mount Doom might be enough to break out, in his shoes, I would like to do some testing before Lenamare gets for whatever reason, unresonable and tries to take Tom on.

All that said, it’s beliveable if Tom want’s to forget this problem.
And he has the new memories to worry about (which might also be the solution to the above Problem).

Ok, I know much of the issues you are facing revolve around travel/army gathering time, which is why the end 20% is a problem. I don’t think you’ve done it before, but maybe you could do a sort of “Time skip” where nothing interesting happens. I.e Tom spends a week training with the Obluette, Talarius training the Nysegard people, the Apostles of Doom gathering Orc and Dark Alfar support on the way to the Doomalogues (essentially a long series of meeting with some travel in between), Freehold preparing for a siege, The Nimbus doing a thorough investigation of a Nyjyr Ennead pyramid or 5, Teragdor the Apostle of Torean getting a crash course in being an Apostle, The Inferno wanders around the Abyss some more… You get the point. This would give you the necessary time for the Storm Lord’s to gather/Position their forces so that Exador could do a few very rapid Abyssal Switches and deposit the Unlife army very close to the fortress in a minute or two. Basically, you would only describe these things as having happened after the fact, you wouldn’t show them happening. Perhaps Tom could get the info from his side in a meeting or something.

Lenamare soul would need to be on the astral plane for that (i think)…..only way I can see it happening is if someone slipped him a roofie

Something, sort of like that will happen…

Just not quite so easy breezy, not if the Dark Apostle has the last word (he’s long disintegrated but…his work will live on!)

Going through on my 3rd read.

Noticed that earlier in the book you have an army of demons in total fear of the tortures that await them when lilith get ahold of them again. It is the fear of liliths torture that keeps the demons in line and the reason why the returning demons give up what they know about tom so quickly. Then later in the book torture becomes sort of a kinky sex act, and who would ever use Torture to gain information.

Just checking in on the ETA for Alpha1 since the week is almost over. Trying to figure out whether I should set some time aside Saturday/Sunday to go through it or not.

Urgh I most distraught when I couldn’tlog in today!!! Clearly you have a d’gremlin infestation that needs sorting lol

I have not got much done this week. Today I had time set aside for writing, but that got sucked up fixing the database issue.

Hoping to do a bunch tomorrow.

I can release alpha’s more often, but ideally I’d like to give people more “meat”

I could probably release them with some stats, like “what’s new” and then let people decide for themselves whether to read it or skip it.

    Yes evil log gremlins….

this site, and this forum log everything to the database, including goofy errors, all sorts of actions.

It basically filled the database up–10 Gigs, about 7 of which were in log files that can be pruned-but it’s very slow to do so.

So I basically upgraded to the first of the pay versions. The advantage of this one is that the database can use multiple processors and more than 1 GB ram and can have a db bigger than 10 Gb.

I notice the performance is definitely better now…so that’s good.

Good to hear. I usually check the forums every night before bed. I’m in England so I’m in a different time zone to you all I think. Also eagerly awaiting alpha 2 – write write write lol
