LEO
If you can’t utilize my expertise I’m just a drag on the ticket.SANTOS
Look, nobody hired you because you’d be a brilliant campaigner. You’re a
beginner in all this. Yes, at the moment, you’re a liability, but you’ll
get the hang of it. You’re here because you know how to run a country. The
conversation I’m interested in is how do we build a four year plan where
you don’t know what kind of Congress you’re going to have to work with.LEO
That’s what transition is about.SANTOS
I don’t want to wait until transition. I want a plan in place. I want to
spend transition hiring a staff that can execute it and on day one I want
to get to work, not dickering around for the first three months. You want
something to worry about, worry about that.LEO
Okay. Well, let’s start by reframing the question. Forget about a four-year
term. The Presidency is 18 months. That’s your window. After that, there’s
midterms. No one on the Hill’s got time to do business with you. They’re
too busy getting reelected. Then, suddenly, you’re running again.SANTOS
So, I’m basically throwing out everything but my first five pages?LEO
In the garbage. Realistically, one page, but we can do this in phases.2016-06-09 at 19:06 #7712The Author GuyMember:-k Sounds like a plan. Just don’t think this particular one will work.
This actually sounds like a Trump construction project! Certainly the facts about its safety and usability are on par with Trumps claims. I’d want a lot more concrete, and I’d bury it really deep in the backyard, not just under a house with a wood floor.
The best thing to do, however, is move to one of the few locations on Earth where fallout will not actually come down, short of direct strike.
I actually used to live in one such place, Socorro NM. Because of the landscape, weather patterns were such that fallout from Albuquerque or elsewhere in the state would not fall there.
Which is interesting because they had a very large explosives program there that used White Sands missile range, nearby, to test explosives.
I remember getting rocked when they were simulating A-bomb explosions using TNT and other conventional explosives. They were studying physical blast effects.

Seriously, wonder how much it would cost a (democratic obviously) president to hire him as a speech writer?

2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7708MikeyMemberLegalizing coke might just do it.
Speaking of which, I suppose domestically California’s pot legalization has been completely eclipsed?
2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7709The Author GuyMemberYes, Nevada and Massachusett’s also did, Maine is too close to call, I believe, Arizona rejected it.
I was really hoping Arizona would have passed it.
That would have create a big swath of the border with Mexico and a big region of legal pot. That would basically eliminate most of the illegal drug trade in that region creating a major setback for the cartels.
Oh well. This is still a big tipping point. Where goes CA, so goes most of the US. My hope is that with nothing left to lose, Obama will strike pot from the controlled substance list and free all remaining federal prisoners arrested for simple possession, and perhaps commute time for those with lesser dealing offenses.
I am really hoping that with nothing left to lose, he does a lot. At this point, with no more repercussions to fear he can do a lot of things that would be very difficult for the next president to redo.
2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7710The Author GuyMemberBTW: I do think that Demon Weed should remain on the controlled substance list. It has proven to be quite anti-deadly.
2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7704The Author GuyMemberYeah that about sums it up.
The US gov’t will mostly be running on autopilot for much of next year. He’s not going to have prepared or vetted the 1400 senatorial approved appointees that he’s going to need to make to head departments/embassies/divisions.
And then I suspect most will be incompetent. My guess is that “the machine of government” will eat him up. He has no clue how to drive it, or how it works, and he’s going to find it very frustrating.
The funny thing is, it takes a new president, of a different party, nearly 4 years to fully harness the power of the executive branch. 3 if they have a lot of experience or can hold over people from the previous administration. And you need competent people to delegate to. He’s not going to have that, he’ll get mad and fire people.
Pence will probably end up doing most of the real work, he’s a governor (a hated governor, and a crummy one) but he’s got experience at running an executive branch.
It’s going to be very interesting to watch.
2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7713MikeyMemberThis thread’s topic was originally EM.
Was killing Orcus merely a ploy to put EM in the Rod’s hands, where it could be linked to Tiernon, and affect his whole network? Maybe even the whole pantheon? Maybe even the links to the god pools?
2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7705The Author GuyMemberI am moving discussion of the US Presidency to this off topic topic.

That topic still exists, I will move your post back to it.
I just moved the election stuff to a different topic to segregate it for people who might be unduly traumatized if they encountered the discussion unexpectedly.

2020-06-02 at 15:24 #7719The Author GuyMemberOK, the other original posts are all still in this Topic at the begining, I just wasn’t seeing them because I’m insane at this point.
So it moved everything somehow, even though I literally clicked through and changed them…
